Erin has endured a lot. Part of her character is loss. A horrible loss she will never fully be over. So when I write scenes touching on Adele and her death, I often listen to this song
Ani DiFranco’s Grey
In fact, Ani is pretty evocative of Erin in many ways. Early on, she sings this one for Ben
Untouchable Face
And this one, which always makes me think of her
32 Flavors
And PJ Harvey – though she doesn’t make a whole lot of music videos either – but in particular Fountain (which she sings for Brody in the kitchen of her cafe), Victory and this one
A Place Called Home
Pearl Jam’s Rearview Mirror
and this one
Inside Job
There’s a full tracklist at the back of Laid Bare, but that book, and really all of them in the series are steeped in music – especially Erin and Adrian, who are both musicians.

I love how you associate music w/ characters.

I always love how you give us special insights on what you did during the writing the books. 🙂 And I really love the Browns and now the extended group 🙂 Even if I didn’t get Adrian LOL

Your musical influences are so clear in your books – I find myself singing the lyrics sometimes as I read the books. Beautiful – looks like I need to make another playlist.

I love Ani Difranco and PJ Harvey. Pearl Jam too! This post is beyond awesome. I always picture Ms Difranco when I read about Erin.
