So, Wow

Impatient woman that I am, I ordered a copy of Triad from the Ebay store because I had no idea when my author copies would arrive and I really wanted one (I still don’t have them so this is really cool).

It came today and when I ripped open the envelope and it fell into my hands I was totally overwhelmed. It’s amazing to have a book release, be it ebook or print book. I’m still so proud every time I see my books up at EC or LI.

But holding it in my hands, looking at the absolutely gorgeous cover, feeling the weight of my words, seeing the world I wrote there on the page before me? Wow.

My husband brought me home a dozen long stemmed red roses to congratulate me. I’m looking at the spine of the book at it sits on the shelf and it still doesn’t feel real. I’m going to have him snap a picture of me (edit, look up) with it so you can all see what a complete and utter goofball I am over this whole thing.

Yeah. Wow.

Fallen Angel Reviews Love

Two very good reviews, one very happy writer!

For the second time in as many months, A Touch of Fae has received five angels and A Recommended Read! Serena says: “Ms. Dane has delivered a wonderful story yet again. I feel that the strength of this story is that a woman with so much power feels powerless compared to her family. I felt it to be a serious topic that was dealt with very well. What happens when the whole family coddles a member? They feel inferior. Em is a great character with great strength. To go to another continent to escape her family took a lot of confidence. I really enjoyed watching her grow as a woman under Con’s expert tutelage. Any man who’s ten thousand years old has got to have a few things up his sleeves. I cannot wait to hear what happens next in this series. I hope there will be more. This world is too fascinating for the series to be done.”

And Sarah gives Second Chances five angels! : “Lauren Dane has written an emotional winner of a story. Rori will touch your heart with her sexual and intimate growth with the men in her life. Zach and Jude are two alpha males with heart, despite the mistakes they make along the way. The loving intensity that emotes from both of them in regards to Rori is truly wonderful to behold, making the general tone of this story a sensual and loving feast of the senses. Rori had some heartbreaking decisions to make in her life and at one point in the story, her struggle brought tears to my eyes, always the mark of a wonderful read in this reader’s opinion. Lauren Dane truly has done a wonderful job of creating two distinct relationships in this book without stepping on the toes of either hero. This is one of those stories you’ll pick up again and again because it features a heroine determined to be her own person, two great heroes, and a plot that is unbeatable. I had a great time reading this book and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of Ms. Dane’s stories.”

Yeah, it’s a good day!

Oooh! Lookie!

Okay, so there are a few women who put me quite solidly in “wow, I’d totally love to spend a weekend with her! (naked)” land. One of them is everyone’s favorite, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Biehl (my pretend celebrity girlfriend) and Charlize Theron is number three.

Now Charlize is in the upcoming movie adaptation of the graphic novel and animated series Aeon Flux. They’ve got an official website with all kinds of nifty stuff. Go look. She’s just so pretty to look at and the sets and costumes look amazing to a sci fi type geek like me. I think I feel some short erotica coming on. Heh.

Oh dear heaven

gaucho pants are back. Were they not scarring enough for my generation that a brand new generation of women needs to be damaged permanently by their inherent ugliness?

Oh and genie shoes.

You think I’m kidding but I’m not. Genie shoes, flat, pointy toes, are all the rage. And genie pants in shiny material. I’m cringing as I write this.

I ask you, what’s next? Knickers? They have to be in that thick, ugly corduroy and worn with knee socks. I hear from my friend, Trish, that Nordstroms is selling a huge amount of knee socks. This concerns me.

Dark Justice

This is the face that’s greeted me each night when I opened my laptop to work on Dark Justice. Kael Gardener, vampire hunter is the hero. He’s muscly like this, tough, wounded. His hair is white blond though and he’s older. Ryan here makes me feel all naughty because he looks a wee bit young.

But I replaced my desktop because I finished Dark Justice last night. Yes, I put the last touches on it and it’s done! I’ll start edits tonight but with a new picture on my desktop and some new tunes on my iPod.

I’m very very pleased with how it turned out and I can’t wait to introduce you to Simone and Kael’s story in the next installment of the Witches Knot saga!

OH!

And a few things I wanted to add:

Today is the last day to enter my Big Big Contest! Don’t forget to get your entries in before midnight pacific time tonight. The drawing will be held tomorrow.

I’m going to be working on some fun ideas for contests and random chances to win. Entries will be based on posts on my loop (someone won a signed copy of Triad at my loop yesterday) and comments here at my blog. So come out of lurkdom already and say hello because you never know when you have a chance to win something. The readers at my loop already know I like to throw utterly random contests and I have been watching the master, Lisa Renee Jones as she’s done so much for the Erotic Romance Authors.

It’s release day at Ellora’s Cave - there are some excellent books out today! And yesterday was release day at Loose Id so check them out too – between the two there are some excellent books to be read.

A Few Highlights

Kirra at JERR gives Second Chances FIVE stars in their October 23 newsletter! : “This is a Dominant/submissive love story with strong characters and yummy, yummy sex that readers who enjoy some kink in their love will want to read.” Three cheers for kinky love!

The new Details magazine came today with Colin Farrel on the cover. Yeah, I know. In real life I think I might want to scrub down with lysol afterwards, but in my fantasies? Oh yeah, Colin realizes that bad boy was just a dream until I get hold of him. Some men are just delightfully bad, Colin Farrel is one of them. Jude Law is another. I couldn’t write a hero as is with Colin’s attributes though, he’d have to start out Colin Farrel and then you’d discover his hidden depth of emotion. Goodness knows you wouldn’t want either of them in real life but fantasies are just fine.

My son came running into my bedroom at 5:30 am screaming and crying that he’d broken his window. My husband jumped five feet in the air. Turns out it was just a curtain rod that got pulled down. This was followed by feverish Star Wars lego battles between him and his older brother that ended with screams and tears and the intervention of their very annoyed father. This lovely tableau was completed by the wide eyed and eager to join the chaos 14 month old.

I am nearly finished with Dark Justice. I plan to be done tonight and start edits tomorrow. I havet to admit that I cried when I wrote last night. I do like very much the person that Simone is becoming. No word yet on Cascadia Wolves but despite my feeling that it’s been weeks, it’s actually been just a bit over one week since I sent it in. I am so impatient!

That’s it for now. Off to check on why the 4 year old is so quiet…

Writing Challenges

So November starts the month where many writers will do the national writing challenge. I don’t have a problem with that, it’s just that I sort of view every month as my own challenge. I write all the time. If I can, even when I’m sick and tired and bleary eyed, I write every day. It’s just what I’m driven to do and also, what I feel I need to do to keep my brain and writing muscles limber.

A writing challenge is a great idea if you’re stuck or if you want to get started and you need a reason to do it. And again, I’m not knocking the idea of the challenge, like I said, it gives some folks the impetus they need to get writing. Several of my writing buddies are doing the challenge.

But at some point, you just have to do it. To start. If this challenge is what gets you started, then go for it! Do it.

A few months back, I was out with friends and a co-worker of one of my friends approached us and we all started talking. Of course, the group were all writers and the co-worker said, “well, I’d love to write but I just don’t have time.”

At the time, I was marginally bothered by the comment but I didn’t know the woman well enough to say anything.

Later, my friend said to me, “I hate when people say they don’t have time to write. It’s like an excuse they use to keep from doing it and facing the potential heartbreak. You’re a writer or you aren’t.”

And I partially agree with that. Most certainly I understand the fear of getting started. When you say you want to write but don’t, you can keep that dream unsullied in your head. In your head, you can still imagine that your first book will be a best seller and people will love you. You don’t have to face deadlines and revisions and rewrites or rejection.

It’s like my dream of learning to crochet. I see people doing it and making beautiful projects and I love to imagine taking a class and learning but I doubt I ever will make the time for it.

And time. Well, heck, I have three kids! I don’t have time either. But I give up sleep to write at night. Sometimes I only get 50 words down that I know I’ll delete the next day. But I gotta do it. Because sometimes, it’s what you delete that’s the important part.

Anyway, don’t mind me, I’m blathering. I have a sinus headache. But I want to encourage people to take the book from your head, from your dreams and imaginings and put it on the screen. Take the risk. There’s an author in there, let her free.
