Today’s prize is the most fabulous, THE STRANGER I MARRIED by Sylvia Day – spanking new in mass market paperback on August 4!

Lady Pelham could not have designed a husband more suited to her needs. The Marquess of Grayson is a dear and enchanting friend and an unrepentant ladies’ man. Their union is solid; their hearts safe from one another. But every marriage has its surprises…

THEY WERE TOGETHER FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS…

They are London’s most scandalous couple. Isabel, Lady Pelham, and Gerard Faulkner, Marquess of Grayson, are well matched in all things–their lusty appetites, constant paramours, wicked wits, provocative reputations, and their absolute refusal ever to ruin their marriage of convenience by falling in love with one another. The Stranger I MarriedIsabel knows such a charming rake will never appeal to her guarded heart, nor will she sway his philandering one. It is a most agreeable sham…until a shocking turn of events sends Gerard from her side.

Now, four years later, Gerard has come home to Isabel. But the carefree, boyish rogue who left has been replaced by a brooding, powerful, irresistible man who is determined to seduce his way into her affections. Gone is the devil-may-care companion who shared her friendship and nothing more, and in his place is temptation itself…a husband who desires Isabel body and soul and who will stop at nothing to win her love. No, this is not at all the man she had married. But he is the man who might finally steal her heart…

Sylvia is really good no matter what genre she’s writing. If you haven’t read her historicals yet, I highly recommend them.

Today’s Question: For those of you who read historicals – what’s your favorite period and setting to read about? Any favorites to recommend?

I’ll choose a winner from the comments tomorrow afternoon and pre-order the book via Amazon! Good Luck.

I’m a big Regency fan, like some Contemporaries, minor Georgian fan, really not fond of Medievals.

I’m less concerned about the period than that the story incorporate accurate details of its period, including the mindset of its characters. Something that reads like two contemporary people in period dress doesn’t do it for me.

If it meets that standard, I like any period from Medieval to Edwardian. I’ve even seen a few set in the Roman Empire that were done well–not a lot of those around.

I seem to read a lot about the 1700s. I suspect that’s a good period because there are some societal structures and niceties in place, but not so many that the characters have to be hamstrung by them.

If a book is set in London or Paris, I don’t think you can go wrong with any time period!

I love all historicals, but paranormal historicals are a favorite. I’ll read almost any historical because of the romance of the distance time periods. Don’t get me wrong, I love the romance between characters, the romance of reading about of time periods long ago just make me happy.

I like the ones set in the late 30’s early 40’s mostly around the time of world war II. Women helping with the war effort and falling madly in love with pilots and soldiers.

I would recommend books like kate and olivia by Annie Murray or Dance With Wings by Amelia Carr.

Regency: I get lost in the etiquette of this period. The constant striving to find a suitable partner.

My favorite period is Regency, but I also like Scottish stories set around 1100 to 1200. I paricularly love Julie Garwood stories in both these periods.

I havent read too many but the ones I have read I adored them. I got into Robin Schone and read her “Awaken My Love”, “The Lady’s Tutor”, “The Lover” and “Gabriel’s Woman” the novels were so different. Unlike anything I have ever read. I also read one of her stories in an anthology which was great because it was a carry over froma character from the “The Lady’s Tutor”.

From there, I basically started to like any of the historical eras. So I dont really have a favorite.
(of course the Jane Austen books are to die for)

I love the Regency period as well as the surrounding time periods since they tend to blend a bit. Some of my favorite authors are Stephanie Laurens, Nicole Jordan, Judith McNaught, older Andrea Kane, Julia Quinn, and Mary Jo Putney.

My favs are Medievil (knights, castles dragons, etc), and Scottish Highlands (highlanders too drool for). I’ve also enjoyed the Viking era (Sandra Hill)

I’d recommend Lorraine Heath’s Scoundrels of St. James Series. Although this series is not Medievil, or from the highlands or Viking era, it’s worth the read. Not sure what period it’s from, maybe Regency? The series won’t disappoint.

I love all historicals, not really sure I favor one period over the other, though Regency seems to be the most common.

I enjoy Loretta Chase, Lorraine Heath, Julia Quinn, Samantha James… Meredith Duran and Kimberly Killion’s book look so yummy too!

Ohh I love historicals. My favorites are the Medieval time frame or anything set during the American Revolution or set in Scotland(at any time). I love Sue-Ellen Welfonder’s writing, and Jude Deveraux has a couple of older ones I love, and Connie Brockway’s McCLAIREN’S ISLE series is good, Linda Howard’s SON OF THE MORNING, Kinley MacGregor’s BORN IN SIN is excellent, Hannah Howell has good ones, Amanda Scott, and if you read Scottish Historical Fiction I’d recommend Cindy Vallar’s THE SCOTTISH THISTLE. It was really good.

    great contest and posts.
