Laid Bare with Flair Contest – Day 25!

Today’s prize is the most fabulous, THE STRANGER I MARRIED by Sylvia Day – spanking new in mass market paperback on August 4!

Lady Pelham could not have designed a husband more suited to her needs. The Marquess of Grayson is a dear and enchanting friend and an unrepentant ladies’ man. Their union is solid; their hearts safe from one another. But every marriage has its surprises…

THEY WERE TOGETHER FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS…

They are London’s most scandalous couple. Isabel, Lady Pelham, and Gerard Faulkner, Marquess of Grayson, are well matched in all things–their lusty appetites, constant paramours, wicked wits, provocative reputations, and their absolute refusal ever to ruin their marriage of convenience by falling in love with one another. The Stranger I MarriedIsabel knows such a charming rake will never appeal to her guarded heart, nor will she sway his philandering one. It is a most agreeable sham…until a shocking turn of events sends Gerard from her side.

Now, four years later, Gerard has come home to Isabel. But the carefree, boyish rogue who left has been replaced by a brooding, powerful, irresistible man who is determined to seduce his way into her affections. Gone is the devil-may-care companion who shared her friendship and nothing more, and in his place is temptation itself…a husband who desires Isabel body and soul and who will stop at nothing to win her love. No, this is not at all the man she had married. But he is the man who might finally steal her heart…

Sylvia is really good no matter what genre she’s writing. If you haven’t read her historicals yet, I highly recommend them.

Today’s Question: For those of you who read historicals – what’s your favorite period and setting to read about? Any favorites to recommend?

I’ll choose a winner from the comments tomorrow afternoon and pre-order the book via Amazon! Good Luck.

My favourite setting is in the Elizabethan times, though there are not too many of those around.

I enjoy Julia Quinn and Stephanie Laurens.

Hard to say because I’m a mood reader. But one of my favorites is Medieval England, in a castle setting. I’m one of those who LOVE The Wolf and The Dove by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. I also enjoy Johanna Lindsey and Julie Garwood.

Oh gosh, I don’t know what period or setting I read. That is so bad! 😳

But Sylvia Day is my most favorite Historial Romance Author!! So whatever time period hers are set in…that is what I like. I also like Christina Dodd’s historical works too.

    Thanks!

    Hmmm ::scratches head::

I would think the Elizabethan, I’m not a huge historical reader, but would say that would be the one I’d gravitate toward.

    Thanks Lauren. 🙂

I have enjoyed stories with the heroine (and hero) riding horses throughout the storyline. I like women who prefer to dress in pants (even if only in disguise) and do other things that were not the norm back then. I can’t think of an actual time period that I prefer. Sorry!

I haven’t set myself to a certain period to read about in historicals. I’m all over the place from Regency to Elizabethan to the Wild West. I just love to read about history. Have a great day.

I used to read nothing but Old West/Native American books when I was younger. I can’t remember any specific titles, but I do remember really enjoying Cassie Edwards Savage Series.

Don’t enter me for this, since I already have it in trade, but just have to say how much I love this book. If you haven’t read it, you should!

I’ll read almost any time period, but I’m not a huge fan of the medievals. Regency, Georgians, Victorians, American Westerns (of any period), and WW2 eras are my favorites.

Oh man, now I *want* this book! (and considering how many books I hauled back from RWA *shudder* I should be immune to book pimping… *shaking fist at Ms Dane* evil book pimp you!)

    erm…

I don’t have a favorite period, thought I confess that I wish there were more novels set in the middle ages–my first single title historical was Elizabeth Lowell’s Untamed many many years ago. This wonderful novel and the two that follow are set within two generations of the Norman conquest of Britain, and I have been saddened by how few romances are set in that period.

Don’t enter me into this drawing – I already own the book, but whoever wins it is one lucky reader! I just comfort re-read The Stranger I Married a few days ago. *heart*
I like the Regency period most, I think. I always get a tiny bit confused with the actual dates – Regency, Victorian, Georgian, etc. And I’m too lazy to look it up right now 😀

I guess I’m a period slut because I’ll read any of ’em! But do enjoy Stephanie Laurens and Lisa Kleypas (contemps & historicals)…and had the luck to get an ARC of Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare. Watch THAT name…it was a very very good read!

Regency – I’d recommend Julia Quinn for wittiness and some laughs, Sabrina Jefferies, Suzanne Enoch (I’d stand behind this one), Gaelen Foley, Johanna Lindsey and Lisa kleypas.

Though occasionally I like some in the Viking era, and then yes, in the Celtic era

Love stories set in either the old west (yummy cowboys or outlaws) or pre-20th century Scotland, yummy kilted warriors!

And more recent historicals set in WW2, I love stories set against war backdrops because I think the stakes are so much more heightened.

I love the victorian and regency/georgian era. It’s like a love/hate relationship with the ‘rules’ of the time period with me. The Wallflower series by Lisa Kleypas is really good and funny, all of Sylvia Days’ historicals are really great so are Lorraine Heath and Kathryn Smith books. Sorry, it can never be just one. 🙂
