Earlier today via twitter Ciara said this: Listening to Hilary Sares and Michelle Buonfiglio (who thinks readers crave forced seduction) talk about historicals

And an interesting 140 character per response discussion came up via Meljean, me, Jaci Burton and Holly regarding whether we felt that was the case or not. Go give your opinion!

I don’t think so. When I hear the term “forced seduction” I think of the historical romances that were out when I first started reading romances in the 80’s, forced seduction seemed a big part of a historical romance (look at Catherine Coulter’s earlier books). In some of those books it was just rape plain and simple. Tended to leave a general feeling of ickiness when reading it. In the past 10 years, I have been getting away from reading historicals (only those who I have been long time fans with) and today’s historicals don’t seem to be along those lines any more, which I am grateful for.
