Next Big Thing Blog Hop

The two fab ladies who make up Katie Porter have tagged me in the Next Big Thing blog hop. The blog hop is an author answering ten questions about whatever their next “big thing” is. That author then tags more authors and so on and so forth.

It’s a fun way to find out a little bit about what your favorite authors are doing – or maybe being introduced to new authors. I’m going to talk about the book I’m working on right now, BURNING WILD

1. What is the working title of your book?

BURNING WILD but I learned this week I will probably have to change it…again.

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

Well, I had one idea when I first sold it and GOING UNDER, but as my books sometimes do, the story shifted and got a lot darker. There are real life parallels in it – about what we do when we make different groups of people the Other and a possible reaction if one day we all found out witches, werewolves and vampires actually existed. Some humans wouldn’t react well.

3. What is the genre of the book?

It’s paranormal romance, the last in my Bound By Magick series

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Faine – the hero would definitely be played by Idris Elba
Helena – the heroine would be played by Odette Yustman

There’s a secondary romance and Toshio would be played by Daniel Henney
Delilah would be played by Jessica Stroup

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

I suck at this, just sayin – but “Gritty alternate future is the backdrop for darkly sensuous love story between a ferocious Lycian and the hunter witch who lives with the fear of failing those who need her most.”

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency/publisher?

This will release from Berkley Sensation in November of next year

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Still working on it but if I take out all the time I spent on other projects that come up during the writing like copy edits, final pass pages, that sort of thing – a first draft of a novel usually takes me about 6 weeks and another week or so to revise, seek crit and smooth.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

None really. No matter how you answer this question it always feels odd. Do I compare myself to writers I admire like Nalini Singh and Lara Adrian who have these alternate worlds similar to mine but whose voices are so singular and fabulous? It feels weird!

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I’ve been writing books set in this alternate world since 2006 and I wanted to spend some time writing about what would happen if humans found out about Others.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Sexy heroes, smart heroines, hot sex…

And now it’s my turn to tag people! Check out their blogs next Sunday, December 30 to see what their NEXT BIG THING is!
