Favorite Book Wednesday

Today I’m going to talk about Lisa Kleypas. I find it difficult to narrow down all my favorites to just one because I think Kleypas is so incredibly talented that many of her books are on my favorites list! But when it comes right down to it, Dreaming of You always rises above the others.

She stood at danger’s threshold– then love beckoned her in.

In the shelter of her country cottage, Sara Fielding puts pen to paper to create dreams. But curiosity has enticed the prim, well-bred gentlewoman out of her safe haven–and into Derek Craven?s dangerous world.

A handsome, tough and tenacious Cockney, he rose from, poverty to become lord of London?s most exclusive gambling house–a struggle that has left Derek Craven fabulously wealthy, but hardened and suspicious. And now duty demands he allow Sara Fielding into his world–with her impeccable manners and her infuriating innocence. But here, in a perilous shadow-realm of ever-shifting fortunes, even a proper “mouse” can be transformed into a breathtaking enchantress–and a world-weary gambler can be shaken to his cynical core by the power of passion. . .and the promise of love.

The heart of this book is Sara, a sheltered bluestocking and her connection to bad boy rogue Derek. He’s so defended! He fights his attraction to her, knowing he’s not right for her. He’s…oh my goodness, he’s swoonworthy. He protects those he cares about, but it takes a lot to get past the walls he’s built around himself. Kleypas builds him so subtly and there’s a scene with Sara’s spectacles that is in my top five romantic gestures of all time file.

I LOVE this book and I’ve re-read it probably at least a dozen times. So today I’m going to give one to one lucky commenter to be shipped directly from Amazon or Book Depository. I’ll announce the winner on the next announcement day – April 16. Be sure to check back to see if you’ve won!

I think my favorite so far is Love in the Afternoon. I have read that series but not the Wallflowers or any other of her historicals. They are on my list.

I am also reading her Friday Harbor contemporaries but have not read any others by her.

I like her style and am looking forward to reading the books I have missed.

Oh, oh, YES! Derek…and you had to love Sara! I loved the wide open way Sara absorbed life…Lisa Kleypas has a WAY of writing both heroes and heroines that are so NOT perfect they draw you in more, and sucker punch you harder with their emotions. It IS hard to pick a fav from her books ~ but I agree, this is one of them. I miss, miss her Bow Street Runners…I love that she takes on subjects and areas that you don’t usually read about in historical romances.

Don’t enter me, please ~ I never miss one of her releases!! I’m thrilled someone is going to get the chance to discover a book I loved so much!!

I am a relatively recent convert to Ms Kleypas, but I’ve come to really like her writing. I have yet to read Dreaming of You, but judging by how highly people whose taste I trust speak of it, I have a feeling it’ll shoot to my top ten as well.

Although I’ve enjoyed all of Lisa’s books that I’ve read, and I know this one is highly recommended, I haven’t read it.

I love a hero that is a self-made man. I like that he didn’t grow up having everything handed to him. He knows how to get what he wants. I would love to win this story. It sounds like something I will love.

I love Lisa’s heroes. They are so alpha but much more than that. My two favorite heroes are Derek Craven and Nick Gentry. Of course, we see an older Derek in another novella, Against the Odds, and he is just as alpha and swoon-worthy as ever.
