OPERATION AUCTION IS NOW LIVE! The auctions will run all this week from March 27 until April 1. They’ll go up in three groups (so if you donated something and you don’t see it today, there are other days). Go check out what we’ve got running first! IF YOU HAVE DONATED AN ITEM AND YOU DON’T SEE IT TODAY, PLEASE REMEMBER THERE ARE THREE BATCHES OF ITEMS GOING UP OVER THE WEEK. IF YOURS AREN’T UP TODAY, THEY’LL BE COMING UP LATER IN THE WEEK.

My beautiful friend Fatin (also well known as “mad” or “mad4rombks”) has been an integral part of the romance community for years – she owns and runs the RR@H Novel Thoughts and Book Talk blog, is an administrator of the WriteMinded loop my author loop and facebook page as well as my assistant and friend. She’s also a tireless advocate for romance novels and a friend to so many in this community. On Tuesday, March 8th, she lost her husband in a senseless act of violence, leaving her alone with four children. You can read more about the tragedy here:

The romance community would like to rally around her. Therefore, we will be holding auctions the entire week from March 27 – April 1 on ebay.

If you are an editor / agent / author / Or anyone else for that matter (WE WELCOME ITEMS FROM EVERYONE, not just authors, etc!) and would like to donate something for the auction – such as a critique, mentoring, lunches at RT or RWA, swag, signed books, etc., please contact me with your donation items. Your help is greatly appreciated! Some examples of auction items might be signed books, baskets of fun stuff, critiques, lunches, mentoring, ARCs, pitch help, offers of specialty services like graphics design, etc. The totally awesome Larissa Ione asked readers recently what type of items they’d most like to bid on, so you might find this list helpful We’re closed to accepting more items at this point, but thank you all very much!

ETA: You can take a look at some of the great items people have donated over the last week here at the Operation Auction Hub Site. The overwhelming response of support from our community has just totally blown me away. THANK YOU ALL for proving yet again that the romance community is full of wonderful people.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I am an eBay addict anyway so I will be saving my $ to bid on these items. I would add a few suggestions for donated items: posters of the cover art, a mention on an acknowledgement page, maybe a thank you or mention on the author’s website with a link to the winning bidder’s website. There are so many possibilities for great items.

I’m happy to help. Post the time and place and I’ll be there to bid. Is there anything readers can do besides bid? Would be happy to help in anyway needed.

Liza – bidding is good, LOL, but we welcome any attention you want to draw to the auction when the time comes too! If you have any items you’d like to donate, we’d love that as well.

Stacie – oh nice suggestions, thanks!

Another suggestion might be bidding for your name to be used for a character in an upcoming book.

Heather- I’m going to have that as part of my donation. For an upcoming Takhini Wolves story.

How do we do this? Do we tell you what we would like to donate and you list it on ebay? Person pays us including shipping and we in turn send Fatin the winning bid money?

Pat – the last paragraph explains most of it – we’re holding auctions for Fatin from March 27 – April 1. You can contact me with any items you’d like to donate to the auction. Most people don’t charge shipping to mail an auction item – though some people do for international mailings. You can see more information at: http://operationauction.wordpress.com/

I hadn’t heard. I don’t know her but have sure seen her name around.

    God I feel awful!

Will not only be over at the auction but will do everything in my power to help spread the word.

Please, please let her know she has love and strength being sent her way.

I feel so bad for Fatin and her family but I know she will appreciate everything that is being done for her.

Sure makes me proud to be a reader of the romance genre!
