Laid Bare With Flair Contest – Day 20!

2009

Today’s prize is a copy of What Happens In Vegas…After Dark!

My story is Sensual Magic and it’s a follow up to last year’s Stripped, featuring William Emery.

Two years ago, William Emery believed in love. Deciding to make his permanent home in Boston and start a nightclub there, he was locking down funding and approving the font on wedding invitations.
Until he found out his fiancée was little more than a faithless gold digger.

Emotionally devastated, he moved to Las Vegas where his younger brother lived and began work to create the kind of club he’d always wanted to run. And to drown the memories of his idealism in a sea of female flesh. If you didn’t involve your heart, it never got broken.

Nell Hunter is a witch on the trail of a human who’s stolen from her people. This human is working with a group of mages stealing money and power from the clans and cabals, relying on the need for secrecy to keep their victims quiet and from going to the police. But they hadn’t banked on Nell.
She’s a bonded hunter to the court of the Owen clan.

In Vegas, Nell seeks William out, his ex-fiance is the woman she’s looking for. The sparks between them fly immediately and while Nell knows they’re meant to be, William has a harder time with it. They come together as bullets and magic fly – nothing worth having is ever easy.

Today’s Question: For those of you who read anthologies – have you discovered new authors who then became an auto buy?

I’ll choose a winner tomorrow afternoon! Good luck

I have read anthologies, but mostly I’ve already known all the authors.

I recently became interested in Lora Leigh’s Elite Ops series after I read only one of the books. I loved it so much I bought the other book in the series and am waiting for more to come out.

Yes, many times the shorter stories in the anthology has me looking for more books by that author.

I’ve been dying to get my hands on a copy of What Happens in Vegas…After Dark. I loved the first one!

Absolutely. That’s one of the reasons I love Anthologies. They give me a taste of an author before diving into a novel. Some of my favorite authors I’ve found through anthologies are Cynthia Eden, Lauren Dane (honestly), Sunny and Marjorie Liu.

I actually recommend anthologies more than regular novels since they give a taste of multiple authors instead of just one. Just because I love a novel, it doesn’t mean someone else will. But it’s hard not to enjoy at least one story in any anthology.

I’m not a fan of anthologies although I have purchased a few…usually if a favorite author has a novella that is part of a series I’m following.

I not long ago bought an anthology for this reason but the other two novellas were not to my taste and I was angry at myself for spending that kind of money for a third of a book. Actually I’m mad enough about it that it’s doubtful I’ll ever buy another anthology…even with one of my favorite authors in the mix.

Mostly I find that novellas in anthologies are too short to be satisfying and don’t usually do justice to an author’s talent…whether known or not. I love trying new authors but I’d much prefer to buy a stand-alone book to determine if I have an affinity with the author’s work.

Obviously readers go both ways on the subject of anthologies:)

I’ve read a few anthologies. While I have discovered some very good authors, I have not added any to my autobuy list.

Yes! I love anthologies. I think they are perfect for discovering new authors. I bought Hot Spell a couple years ago and Shiloh Walker and Meljean Brook became auto-buys for me.

when I first started reading paranormals a few years ago, I used anthologies to find new authors because I didn’t know what all was available and if I would like their stories or not.

Christine Feehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Eileen Wilks and multiple authors from Ellora’s Cave have all been automatic buys.

I want this anthology so bad. I am on a spending budget so i haven’t been able to pick it up yet.

I have an attraction/aversion thing with anthologies. I’m always attracted to them, especially when they have authors I like to read and the stories relate to a series I’m reading. However, once they are on my shelf, I tend not to reach for them often. I think it is because just as I’m getting into the story and characters…it ends and I feel like I’m left hanging.

I have found new authors from anthologies but likewise, I’ve found a few that I’m not so inclined to pursue further. I guess it works both ways. Fortunately the latter is very few!

I rarely purchase anthologies. I prefer a lengthy novel that I can get lost in for longer.

I love anthologies because it’s an easy way for me to get a taste of an author’s writing by reading their short story first. I’ve discovered quite a few authors through their anthologies and they are definitely auto buys for me now. Some of those authors are Sasha White, Lucinda Betts, Cathryn Fox and Bonnie Edwards.
