This print volume contains my novella, Sweet Charity and Jaci Burton’s novella, Unraveled!
Sweet Charity by Lauren Dane. Eight years after a horrible one night stand,Charity and Gabriel finally find themselves in bed again. Trouble is, he thinks she’s too nice a girl to accept his darker sexual urges, so he’ll only agree to a short term fling. Gabriel’s about to find out that even sweet girls have their limits.
Unraveled by Jaci Burton. Entrepreneur Mitch Magruder wants to buy old friend Greta Mason’s rundown motel. Greta loves the motel and intends to hang tight, despite the feelings between her and Mitch. Can a man afraid to commit and a woman bruised by the past find a love worth building a future on?
(Sorry this is only showing up now! My auto post was for tomorrow cause I’m sooo smart, LOL)
Today’s theme is Humor – I thought I’d choose a scene from Cascadia Wolves: Enforcer right after Lex and Nina have had sex for the first time. A big part of their connection is the chemistry they’ve got. He’s all big bad and she does respect it, but she doesn’t simply let him push her around. She uses humor a lot to ward him off or keep him in line.

She said this as she fell back to the mattress and gut-wrenching shudders broke over her. Her teeth began to chatter.
He sat up, concerned, and leaned over her. “Nina? Baby, are you all right?”
“Does it look like I’m all right to you?” she demanded through teeth clenched to keep them from chattering. “What is going on?”
“I uh, I think it’s the claiming,” he said as he got up and went into the adjoining bathroom, coming back quickly with a wet washcloth that he put on her face, mopping up the sweat that had gathered there. “It shouldn’t be like this. Only, well, I’ve only known wolves who did it to other wolves. But I know there are humans who mate with wolves and they seem fine…”
Before he could continue to babble she whacked him upside the head with the pillow to shut him up. “What the fuck are you talking about? Claiming? Mates?”
“I’ve told you before, you’re my mate! I’m your mate! I just completed the claiming. It’s my seed inside of you that does it. If you were just some random woman, it wouldn’t be a big deal but because you’re my mate, the woman who is my biological match, my DNA is now twining with yours in a sense.”
Despite his fear for her, he smiled softly and his voice gentled. “I can feel it too. Only it doesn’t hurt, really. I just feel incredibly connected to you. And wow, you’re not happy with me at all are you?”
“You’re altering my DNA?” Despite her shivering, which was lessening, she sat up. “Oh my god! Without asking me? You’ve done something to alter my fucking humanity without asking me?”
He put out a hand and touched that luxuriant brown hair and despite herself she leaned into his hand. She didn’t just want that touch, she realized with a start—she needed it.
“No way! Nina, I told you up front about the bond, about you being my woman. I asked if you gave yourself willingly to me and you said yes.”
“You didn’t say you were changing my DNA! I thought you were trying to get into my pants.”
He raised an eyebrow at her. “If all I wanted was a quick fuck, I’d have had it weeks ago. This is more than that and you know it. This is forever. You and me, Nina. We belong together. I didn’t trick you into this. I told you up front and you agreed. Furthermore, you know I’m telling you the truth.” He was not going to allow her to get him mad. No, he felt great, damn it, she was his woman and she was bound to him and he to her.
Grrr! She hated it when he was right. He had asked her, but how could she have known his semen was some kind of wonder-jelly-magic-DNA-changing stuff? She was silent as she thought it through. She examined her feelings, and beneath her anger she realized she felt connected to him in a really deep way. She felt a part of something, of someone, in a way she’d never allowed herself to imagine. Did she want to have some mystical hoodoo with this man? Ack! With this werewolf? “Well, it’s too late now. What’s happening? What does this mean?”
“Nina, baby, look at me,” he said and gently tipped her chin so that she was looking up into his face where she couldn’t ignore the truth of the situation.
He saw the panic in her eyes and his heart ached. “Do you really think I’d do anything to hurt you?”
She shook her head, afraid if she tried to speak she’d cry. Now that the shaking was over she was drowning in emotion. She’d never felt anything like what she was feeling at that moment. It was as if the warmth of him was seeping into every pore. She felt his presence, his confidence and courage, his strength, his desire, his lust and his fear. His love. God, he loved her. How in the hell could he love her? Worse, she felt the same. Oh god, she was doomed, she was in love with the giant tool. She actually liked this feeling of connection. Gah!
“What is this?” she managed to croak out. “What’s happening?”
“I feel it too. It’s the bond forming. We don’t have detailed explanations for it. All we know is that when a male releases his seed into his mate, the bond forms. An emotional and physical connection is made.”
He leaned down and kissed her gently and his own fear ebbed when she responded.
“Great. Magical cum, lucky me.” She sighed and quirked up a smile at him. “So am I a werewolf now?”
He chuckled. “No. You’d have to have the virus put into your bloodstream through a bite. We can talk about that later but we have a lot to deal with right now just figuring out who killed Tommie and Rey. I want to focus on keeping you alive through this ridiculous plan of yours. Then we can talk about whether or not you want to be a wolf.”
“We should start planning. How are you going to arrange this meet-up?” She sat up and he pushed her back to the mattress.
“We are not talking about any of this until tomorrow. Tonight you are going to rest. We’ll get dinner and I’ll get you moved into our room while you take a long hot bath. Cade will call the family together to accept you into the Pack as my mate, and my mother will be thrilled of course. She’s always on me to give her grandchildren. Heh, Cade is next! The pressure is off me now…”
She put her hands over his mouth. “God, you seemed so stoic before you got your super semen into me. Let’s back up, shall we? First of all, moving in together?”
“Nina, where else would you be?”
“Shouldn’t we date for a while or something?”
He sighed and rolled on top of her. His weight anchored her as she smoothed her hands up the muscles of his back.
“Beautiful, you are my mate. Where else would you be but with me? Human mates live together, why wouldn’t we?”
“Well, people date and then they sometimes live together and then they get married. They don’t set up house after having sex once.”
“I think we are having some basic problems with definition here. You are my mate. I am your mate. In human terms then—you are my wife. In werewolf culture, once a mate is claimed that’s a declaration, a marriage. You carry my scent, Nina. A wolf will be able to tell that you’re my mate by scent. I carry yours as well. There’s no courtship, although you’ve certainly been a pain in my ass over the last weeks as I watched you, that’s probably close to a courtship for a prickly woman like you.” He said this last with that naughty grin.
“Married?” she asked faintly as she thought it over, giving his ear a halfhearted twist for the prickly comment. “Well, I’ll agree to the moving in to the same room part, after all we’re sleeping together and I don’t have a house anymore, so my being in here is silly. But it’s going to take me some time to deal with the marriage idea. Plus, uh, this mate thingy is fine for you in your culture and all, but humans don’t recognize it, do they?”
He frowned. She was so contrary. “I don’t care what others recognize. It is. You are mine, period.”
“Yeah, okay, He-Man. So now you want me to meet your mother? ‘Cause you see, I’m not exceptionally good with mothers. They never seem to be very excited when they meet me.”
“Well of course! Nina, do you need to go to the doctor? Are you having hearing problems? You. Are. My. Mate. My mother and father and sisters are all going to want to meet you. And they’ll love you. In fact, they have to meet you before anyone else in the Pack does or my mother will never let me hear the end of it.” He rolled off her and reached for the phone and she grabbed his arm with a squeak.
“You’re calling them now?”
He laughed. “No, Cade, as the Alpha, will call them. I have to call one of the Pack who is a jeweler, have him design rings for us.”
She groaned, fell back to the mattress and pulled the sheet up over her face. “You know, Rushy McRushter, you don’t have to go all wild right now. We can, oh I don’t know, take things slowly!”
He leaned over and pulled the sheet back and peeked into her face. “Rushy McRushter?”
She gave a wave. “It was off the cuff, I’m better if I have time and I’m not being pushed into marriage by a fuck-drunk werewolf.”
He laughed. “Fuck-drunk? Good one. But there’s no point in not moving forward. It’s a done deal.” He shrugged. He dialed the numbers and she groaned and rolled out of bed in search of her panties. With a growl he pulled her back to the bed with an arm around her waist. “I have plans for you, don’t rush off.”
He held her there while he spoke to the jeweler and had him start on some design ideas for rings but swore the man to absolute secrecy under pain of death. He sounded so serious about the last part that Nina shivered. He was so big and bad and scary but she didn’t feel threatened in any way by him. That was really sexy.
When he hung up he turned back to her and his lips moved toward hers. She gave a soft sigh until she heard Cade bellow up the stairs that dinner was ready.
Lex cursed under his breath and sighed.
“Let’s ignore him,” Nina murmured and pulled him back toward her.
He extricated himself from her. “As much as I’d like that, he’ll never quit. He’s an alpha, used to being obeyed. It’s damned annoying sometimes but that’s the way things go. He’s mellow, but when he’s spent hours cooking he’ll be pouty if we don’t go down there and ooh and aah over everything.”
“God, you two are girls,” she mumbled and got up. Failing to find her panties she put her jeans back on without them.
“You’re awfully mouthy for such a beautiful woman,” he said, catching her at the door and pulling her into an embrace.
“Yeah? Too late to complain, you bought the cow, even though I’d have let you milk me at least five more times.”
He laughed and swatted her bottom as they walked out into the hallway. “You’re going to keep my life interesting, I think.”

Hey folks! Just got a note that Laid Bare is featured for discussion today over at Barnes and Noble’s Heart to Heart blog – on the subject of power exchange. Please stop in and say hello and register your thoughts on the subject.
A fix for my jones – new books out today!
Shannon Stacy’s next Devlin Group novel, No Surrender is out today from Samhain!! Shannon Stacy is a really wonderful writer and it’s one of my goals in life to introduce more readers to just how fabulous she is. This series is a not miss!
Um, whew that’s SOME cover huh? Tasty abs! Here’s the blurb:
Don’t hold back. Never give up. If only it was that easy…

Not by a long shot.

No matter what her heart says, there’s no future with him. They’re from different worlds. Not to mention the effect a failed relationship could have on the job.

Jill Sorenson has a new book out today as well, Set the Dark On Fire! If you haven’t read Jill yet, you really need to! Crash Into Me came out last year and it’s really excellent (hot surfer who is also a dad? Yum). This one is on its way to me right now so I’ll be reading it soon
Blurb: Shay Phillips knows her way around Dark Canyon. She’s handy with a gun and can track a wild animal with the best of them. It’s humans who usually give her the most trouble. And with a hormonally charged teenage brother to raise—and an admitted weakness for the wrong kind of man—they’re giving her plenty of trouble these days. Then there’s the matter of murder. As an expert on mountain lions, Shay is skeptical when a local prostitute turns up mauled without a drop of blood near the body.
Now, together with the town’s newly arrived sheriff, Luke Meza—a Las Vegas city boy with his own dark secrets—Shay must navigate a dangerous valley filled with angry ex-lovers, unfaithful spouses, and poisonous snakes in a desperate search for the killer. But when suspicion falls on her own brother, and her attraction to Luke rages into a full-on erotic affair, can Shay quell the fires inside her long enough to uncover the truth?
One of my very favorite paranormal romance authors (and one of my very favorite people) Cynthia Eden has a new one out today too! An anthology with the most wonderful Shelly Laurenston (LOVE HER) and Sherrill Quinn called BELONG TO THE NIGHT
Cindy’s story is In the Dark: FBI agent and leopard shifter Sadie James’ undead ex, Liam, still arouses her deepest desires, distracting her from tracking the brutal rogue shifter who is terrorizing Miami. By teaming up with Liam, Sadie has a better chance of solving the case, but as passion consumes them, she stands to lose more than just her heart.
“The Wolf, The Witch, and Her Lack of Wardrobe” by Shelly Laurenston: Jamie Meacham has enough trouble controlling her supernatural abilities. There’s no time for lust, or for Tully Smith, even with his smoldering amber eyes. But Tully’s grappling with his own animal instincts as a powerful shifter-wolf, trying to protect all his territory-including a certain sassy witch-from vicious rivals.
“City of the Dead” by Sherrill Quinn: Dori Falcon is a witch with a plan: get to New Orleans, locate her missing brother, and recover the Eye of Bastet, a mysterious and powerful amulet. Her plan never included falling for sexy Cajun copy Jake Boudreau; but without his help, she may never find the demon who has her brother, and the key to her family’s survival.
Last but never least – another fellow Bradford Babe – Shelli Stevens is in the newest Sexy Beast anthology out today!!
“Chanku Challenge” by Kate Douglas
When Beth and Nick first discovered the amazingly sensual power of their Chanku birthright, the desire to mate was fierce and uncontrollable. But Beth remains haunted by an event from her past, and she must confront it in order to accept her new life and find the happiness she so desperately seeks…
“Eye of the Beholder” by Anitra Lynn McLeod
Terrified at the rumors of her new husband’s hideous disfigurement, Larra of Rellmon fears the night and his approach. But as the hooded Dauer caresses her body Larra’s shivers of terror become quivers of ecstasy, and under cover of darkness she willingly submits to complete sexual surrender…
“His To Reclaim” by Shelli Stevens
Five years ago Gemma gave her heart and soul to a fellow werejaguar only to have him disappear. Now Hunter has come back and kidnapped her on her wedding day in order to make her his again, and he will tempt, tease and taunt her body to the heights of hedonistic pleasure to get exactly what he wants…
Whew, summer is burning up and it’s now at the tail end where it would appear I have free time, but I do not.
For some reason, the school district has decided to drag out all this “first week” stuff into two weeks. So there’s a middle school thing wherein I’ll be there half the day with my oldest, but it’s not a “real” first day. Then the next day is a real first day. Then I have an “info” night for the other two, again, on different days, but neither starts that day. Middle kiddo starts for “real” that next day, but mini me has some 90 minute thing the next day and then goes home. Then half the kids go for real the following day but not the next, and then the other half goes that next day. Essentially, all this stuff takes up TWO WEEKS of my time and while I’m all for easing kids into school, their casually tossed out advice to “get daycare” for any other kids I might be dragging around is understandable, but I don’t have a nanny. I don’t have “daycare” I can just whip out of thin air. Who are these people who can? Perhaps if they didn’t have three kids all going to different “events” on multiple days without actually starting school, I wouldn’t need such things.
And then I get the news that Borders isn’t carrying Laid Bare.
Let me back up and give some good news: Laid Bare has made the Barnes and Noble bestseller list as well as Bookscan! I’ve never made the bookscan list before so I’m totally thrilled! Thank you to everyone who has bought Laid Bare!
But when I got this news, I saw that the BGI list, which I made with Undercover and Relentless, was noticeably absent. This absence went well with the sinking feeling I’d had from a few emails from readers who told me they’d gone to several Borders stores only to be told Laid Bare was not to be carried in stores on shelves, but online only.
This makes no sense to me. Undercover and Relentless were both carried at Borders and made the bestseller list with each release. The books did well there and the cover is no more racy than my others. So I simply don’t know why they made that choice. I only know it’s hard not to feel slightly nauseated as this stuff is important in this place in my career because it affects overall sales, which will impact my ability to contract more books.
So, what can I tell you other than this: Barnes and Noble carries Laid Bare and has been very good to me. So if you’re looking for the book, you should be able to find it on shelves in your local Barnes and Noble. BN online, Amazon and Books A Million also carry it.
I’ve managed to sneak to the movies with my dude a few times (kids with grandparents). We saw District 9 – deeply disturbing, really evocative film making and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Be warned, it’s rated R for a reason! This is a dystopian future – there’s blood and gore, lots of violence and though it’s totally what the plot supports, it’s not something for the fainthearted.
Inglorious Basterds, which was okay. It wasn’t super fabulous, nor was it horrible. It had its moments but that zing between characters that Tarentino can be so gifted with was missing for most of the movie. It’s also violent, and yes, also rated R.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – this one in IMAX with some three d stuff. It was a good, solid adaptation and I quite enjoyed it. I cried at the end, though not nearly as much as I did when I read the book. Snape is so fabulously bad I can’t help but adore him, LOL. And these little children we’ve watched for years are all, like, sort of hot and it creeped me out a bit, LOL. Still, I really liked it!
This week begins all our delivery services once again. My organic produce delivery from Spud will come tomorrow, man I’ve missed that! And dairy comes on Friday. Things slowly moving back to normal. Slow or not, I’ll take it and take it gladly, LOL.
I’m off! I have to work on some writing this morning! Have a great day everyone.
Today’s Theme is Settings!
I thought I’d show you The Dollhouse, the burlesque lounge in Las Vegas where Dahlia Baker, a dancer and grad student, works. Dahlia is the heroine in my novella, Stripped, in the What Happens in Vegas anthology!
I wanted to give the reader a sense of not just the physical space, but also the people who filled it and the city it was placed in. Vegas is one of those cities that’s perfect to be a character in a story and I wanted to open the book, draw the curtain back and introduce the reader to Dahlia and the place she feels so very freed by…

The low, sensual beat brought her onto the stage like a siren. One gloved arm wove through the slit in the curtain and then the other, parting them as she stood, framed for a long moment. Her dark hair was piled up on her head artfully. Long, fake lashes framed big brown eyes. A deep blue satin dress hugged every curve lovingly, her breasts pushed up and out of the scooped neckline and as she walked, the slit on each side of the dress would show her legs to the upper thigh.
She let the music grab her senses and her rhythm as she slowly sauntered out onto the narrow stage. Dancer’s heels, still very high, led her through the beginning of her routine as she carefully maneuvered the long feather boa to keep from tripping.
Caught in the music, Dahlia’s muscles burned as she did a high kick leading into a round kick swiveling her body away from the audience all in a seamless set of movements.
A feather from the boa stuck to the sweat on her neck as she slowly rotated her hips in time with the horns in the jazz band. Her hands rose, slowly taking the boa to wind around her body. Down it went until she finally stepped out of it as it lay at her feet, kicking it to the side.
Giving her back to the audience, she raised one hand into the air as she turned her head, winking over her shoulder.
Knocking her hips from side to side to the smoky jazz beat, she brought the tips of her gloved fingers to her mouth to grab the material and pull it off slowly.
The first glove went over her shoulder, into the bar pit the stage encircled. The second glove came off as she stood in front of the trumpet player and pulled it off around his body.
A bump and grind circling the band and she lay down on the side of the stage near where the bottle service tables were. Throwing a foot into the air, she gave them all a lot of leg to look at as the dress slid back. Rolling up onto her knees, she unzipped the front of the dress and shimmied out of it. Then she turned, cleverly giving them her back and a pair of boyshort bottoms with a winking kitty on the ass.
The dress dropped as her forearms came up to cover her breasts and she bent, looking at them all upside down through the vee of her legs.
The cheers and applause bolstered her confidence. Up there she was beautiful and desired and that was okay. More than okay, it felt marvelous.
Still facing the band she reached out quickly, grabbing the hat off Timmy’s head. The trumpet player widened his eyes in a choreographed move and she spun, clutching the prop hat just so to cover herself.
Sensual smoke and mirrors. Dahlia didn’t show the audience any more than she’d show at the beach. They wouldn’t see her nipples and her panties would stay right on her booty with the fishnets below that.
Playing coy, she waved with one hand, pretending to almost drop the hat as she took the first step back up to the dressing room. And another step and two more. Once her body was in the doorway she turned and tossed the hat back to Timmy. With a hand over her mouth stifling a pretend giggle, she kicked up her leg and was gone behind the curtain.
Her robe hung just inside the doorway and she grabbed it, putting it on as she made her way back to her dressing area. She smiled as the music started for Roseanne, the dancer who shared the ten p.m. time slot.
Tapping her foot to the notes of Viva Las Vegas, Dahlia took off her stage makeup and got changed. She usually tried to hang out twice a week or so to watch her friends dance and also have a few drinks. She’d met a lot of interesting people and oddly enough, gained a following of sorts.
The Dollhouse was a burlesque lounge. The women did not strip totally nude and Dahlia thought of the show as an elaborate celebration of women’s sensuality. The women there always reminded Dahlia of the Elvgren pin-up girl art her grandpa used to have in his garage. Dahlia loved the coy, sex kitten she embodied on stage. It often felt like that Dahlia was her other half. The part of her she could only release up there for those minutes she was performing. The half she put away when she turned back into a pumpkin. Or more precisely a graduate student.
The club had been open for six months and already had a hip, young following with lines outside every night. The lounge itself was small and intimate, it didn’t hold more than seventy-five people. The interior was subtly sexy with lush fabrics and deep-colored leather. A nice place to hang out and have a drink with her friends that she’d never have been able to afford were it not for the fact they worked there.
Emerging from the back of the club and walking into the lounge area, she searched for her friends’ table. Catching sight of them, she also noticed her boss at his usual table. William Emery was a very sexy man. High powered, really charismatic and extraordinarily successful. He’d broken ground on the first retro style burlesque club in Vegas and now others copied him. He seemed to constantly be in motion, working twelve to fifteen hour days. She admired that even if he did come off like a cold asshole sometimes.
He certainly liked a wide variety of women. Although she’d give it to him, he seemed to keep a professional wall between himself and his dancers. He flirted, but he didn’t prey on them. He paid her well and didn’t hit on her, she was down with that. Smiling, she sent him a wave and a wink as she made her way past.

Some new Laid Bare Reviews:
Recommended Read from Talia at Joyfully Reviewed: The emotional intensity of Laid Bare is enough to make you bite your nails off. Each and every love scene pushes the boundaries of power exchange and author Lauren Dane has written the characters of Erin and Todd in such a way that the reader feels their every emotion. I was anxious, I cried, I yelled, and I blushed to high heaven. Laid Bare affected me so totally that I went back and reread it again, just to be sure. Consider Laid Bare joyfully recommended – it is just an amazing and satisfying read!
This book, however, made me growl at my children when they wanted lunch. It made me stay up til the wee hours of the night when everyone was asleep and my brain begged me to keep reading. It had me on the edge of my computer chair, on the edge of the couch. It had me sobbing my heart out for Erin, laughing and “wiggling”. The gamut of emotions Lauren Dane put me through reaked havoc, but it was worth every sentence. This is an erotic book and I’ll admit there were a few times I was like wow! with the sex scenes and I’m sure I even blushed. But more than anything, this was truly a romance. In all it’s messy glory.
I’d never read Lauren Dane before Laid Bare, but you can bet your sweet patootie that I will most definitely read her again.
Vivian Arend: The story is emotional, rich with imagery and passion. It’s not a cookie cutter book, yet she doesn’t throw things at you to simply to shock or surprise. There are reasons for everything, layers with layers. And they all make sense.
I still feel the flavour of her author’s voice. It’s not like Lauren reinvented herself by changing totally, because I would have missed the things that make her unique. The sense of humour, the sharp wit. The steamy sex. :) But she’s taken the whole product and added 110 proof shots. There’s more humor– but more subtle, more real. The witticisms are like a family conversation and because you know the background, the cuts are just that much deeper. And the steam?
O.M.G.
Brraddicts: Laid Bare is a stripped back emotionally charged story of second chances between three characters that have each suffered disappointment, heartache and loss. A tender and erotic ménage contemporary with strong and passionate characters, that left me with a heartfelt satisfaction that you only get from truly great romances.
Meet Stillness, called upon to soothe the conscience of a man in need of redemption after a shocking act from his sexual past. Then there’s Honesty, whose vow of Solace is to a prince looking for a submissive handmaiden. Instead, he gets the unexpected. And finally, Determination, a handmaiden confronted with a client lost in a haze of random sex and drugs. She has just the plan to literally whip her man into shape.
