Laid Bare with Flair Contest – Day 16!

Today we have the ever so wonderful Carolan Ivey (who makes me smile every time I see her because she’s so lovely and funny). She’s giving away a free ebook download of your choice from her backlist, and a Celtic music CD (US shipment only, please!)

Hi everyone, and thank you, Lauren, for inviting me. 🙂 By the time you read this I will have returned from the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina. Please visit my blog for kilt photos!

Below are thirteen random lines from my latest release, A Ghost of a Chance, book 2 of my Legends series. It comes out in print in October. Enjoy! 🙂

1. “If there isn’t a blond man in your life right now, there will be. And I daresay his entrance won’t be subtle.”

2. He narrowed his eyes as this new energy wavered and flickered, like a candle caught in a high wind. In danger of going out.

3. “Will you stop reading my mind?”
“I don’t have to. Besides, I’ve been in your mind. Cobwebs. Yeesh.”

4. “Your door’s open,” Lily remarked, and curled a lip in satisfaction when Ross’s gaze automatically dropped to his own fly. “Your car door, genius.”

5. Don’t breathe, don’t breathe, some last vestige of her conscious mind insisted. Hang on, help will come. It will. It will…

6. “I see,” she said slowly. “You’re not meanin’ her any harm, but you say there’ll be hell to pay if you don’t find her. Now I ask you, my fair fallen angel, how am I to interpret that?”

7. “I think it’s time for you to be havin’ a reading.”
He gave a bark of laughter. “You can’t do a reading for a dead man.”
She continued to lay out the cards, smacking each one down with a vengeance.
He swallowed. “Can you?”

8. “Carey Magennis. You have to let me go.”

9. “I was raised on the scariest ghost stories in the South ever since I was old enough to stay up past sunset. You aren’t missing any body parts, no bones sticking out. So, I’m sorry to say, but for a ghost you really aren’t that scary.”

10. I don’t belong here.

11. This is what I wanted. A safe, secure marriage, no surprises. Two kids and a Golden Retriever. But is it what I want, she contradicted herself in a flash of insight, or what is expected of me?

12. It was him.
His powerful presence bored into her back. As she stared, he leaned close to her ear, his eyes intense, his strong, straight lips moving.
Carey, don’t take the pills tomorrow. We have to talk.”
A loud crash. She gasped as icy liquid splattered her feet and ankles. She’d dropped her glass. Her gaze flew back to the window. The man was gone.

13. “Lane, please. I need to disappear. Just for a while.”

Today’s Question: Leave a comment to get in a drawing for a free ebook download of your choice from my backlist, and a Celtic music CD (US shipment only, please!)

Carolan Ivey

Good luck everyone! Winner will be announced tomorrow!

Kilts? Crap, mind just went to mush!

Weee, those 13 lines are WOW!

Um, well since I can’t read the book until October 🙁

…have a question. Ok, so it seems she’s doing a reading on a ghost, can she, uh, you know, touch him?

Was just curious for ‘scientific’ reasonings of course.

    Hi Carolan,
I love the random lines from your book. What a great and fun way to introduce it to us. Definitely intriguing and leaving us wanting to find out more. But to tell the truth I was going to be headed to your website regardless. The book is just a bonus, because after I read that you would have pics from the Highland games you just attended I was ready to find the link to your website. I love me a man in a kilt, it is so beyond sexy it leaves me breathless!

Thank you so much for all your nice comments, everyone!

This sequel was a long time coming, mainly because I turned myself inside out giving the ghost hero in book 1 a convincing happily ever after. It took a lot of thought to come up with another fresh and convincing idea to give Troy, the hero in book 2, his own HEA.

Dana, the answer to your question is…”It depends.” [grin] If you read the excerpt, my answer might make more sense! 😉

“If there isn’t a blond man in your life right now, there will be. And I daresay his entrance won’t be subtle.”

Love it! Will have to give it a chance…

And I love Scottish festivals – used to go to Hunter Mt. in NYS for their weekend each year. The sight (and sound) of thousands of pipers marching down the mountain as the sun sets… YUMMMMMMM! 😎 Pardon me, I need to wipe the drool…

Hi Lauren! Hi Carolan! I’m just back from being away a few days with a broken laptop! One more new part but using a spare old one til it comes but at least i can be online now. I missed not being able to come here 🙁

Carolan, I have the print of book 1 on my keepers shelf and so can’t wait for the print in Oct! I read both ebooks and prints but some come to be favorites and love to have in prints too! I don’t think I missed any of your books so don’t put me in your contest. I just wanted to give a big hello and thanks for the great fantasy/paranormal reads!

Neat to put in the random line from your book! My favorite is #3 with the reading of the mind!

    Hi Caffey! [waving wildly]

Funnily enough, lines 3 and 4 were last minute inspirations that happened in one of the last edits of the manuscript. Just like Troy’s character didn’t really reveal itself until literally the final revision of book 1 – and he ended up being the most requested hero for book 2!

This was my first time writing a secondary romance (Lily and Ross) and Lily spoke this line in my ear on one of the final passes. She’s a sassy gal and I adore her. 🙂 She and Ross may make a reappearance in book 3.

😈 Carolan, those kilt photos are a hoot! I love the species you made up. The Roman ain’t half bad is he? 🙂 I like the first line you listed the best of all the lines. His entrance won’t be subtle. The first time I read that, I thought it said, “His entrance won’t be suitable. : 😆

    Have a great weekend!
