A snippet from CHAOS BURNING

What I really loved about writing Chaos Burning was the chemistry between Lark and Simon. They bicker and tease, but there’s a lot of respect between them. It was so much fun to write! What do you guys think about a friends to lovers story? yea or nay?

He got in front of her and she snorted, moving around his body. “Kind of my job, Thundarr.”

“What?”

“Cartoon hero. Big barbarian. Sort of like ThunderCats?”

“Did you just compare me to a cat?”

“Concentrate on the real issue please.”

“Let’s get you in the car then. Or back inside. This is serious shit, Lark.”

She grabbed a strand of her hair and twirled it around her finger as she gave him an exaggerated pout. “Really? I’m such a girl, I had no idea.” Her tone went very dry and he knew he was being chastened. But . . . he liked it. “Back off. Your testosterone is messing with my magick.”

“How so?”

She narrowed her eyes and planted her hands on her hips. “Oh my god. Are you arguing just to argue? This is why you’re so hot. Because otherwise no sane woman would tolerate your bossiness. I need to use my othersight. Step back a little.”

It’s a kinf of evolving into a serious relationship that you already know how much you enjoy each others company, You laugh together, talk together and generally like each other and the natural next step is…
Yes I enjoy this kind of story!

Friends to lovers is my favorite kind of story. It just has a little something extra you don’t get from an insta-love story.

I love it when the characters are friends. That way, they already respect each other and a romance between them is totally believable.

I love them! I think that the relationship they share as friends helps to build a strong base for their love. You know you actually “like” the person and that there is more to the relationship than just chemistry.

Agreed that friends -> lovers is my favorite type of romance. It reminds me of falling in love with my husband. I’ve gotten used to the “fated mate” story-line and some books kind pull it off. But I love watching it happen. Love what we’ve been seeing of Lark and Simon!

I adore friends-to-lovers–there’s something about watching a friendship evolve that’s quite marvelous! And bickering is fun 😉

Yea on the friends to lovers. Sometimes it’s just a natural progression and just fits for two people. You have probably seen the good, bad and ugly as a friend and don’t have to “behave” during the get to know you stage.
I love a book with humor and playful banter (snarkiness) between the characters.

Friends to lovers works for me. Literally. Hubby and I started out friends almost 20 years ago, moved in together a year later. We’ll be married for 16 years in September. 😀

I love the friends to lovers theme. There is a comfort level and respect that you don’t always feel when it comes to other themes. Or it takes awhile for the couple to feel that comfortable and at ease with
each other. Plus its pretty cool to say you’re married to your best friend 🙂

Thanks for the excerpt! What I like about friends to lovers is that they can bicker and understand where it’s coming from. Makes the reading fun!

Speaking from personal experience there is nothing better than waking up one day and finding yourself in love with your best friend. Ok what is better is knowing that from the day he first saw you he knew you were the one. Going on 15 years and the man still makes my heart smile. Nothing is better.
