Read an Ebook Week

Hey, it’s “Read an Ebook Week

It’s no secret that I got my start in publishing with a small digital press. I have great love for digital first publishers like Samhain (home to my Chase Brothers, Petal, Cascadia Wolves and de La Vega Cats series). I’m a huge reader of digital books as well.

Digital first publishers like Samhain are great places to find not only your old favorites, but to discover new ones as well. And it’s not just smaller pubs – but traditional publishers as well, realizing getting those digital versions out at the same time as the paper version offers more variety to readers.

Digital books give me more options because I can fit so many of them on my digital book reader and take oodles of books on my vacation because my Kindle fits so easily in my purse. I LOVE that my readers will visual disabilities are able to change the size of the font and read more, and easier without having to wait and hope their favorites will be issued in large print. I love that I can be talking about a book with a friend over lunch and buy it immediately while we sit there (instant gratification, yay!)

When I first started out I heard a lot of “ebooks aren’t real books” and “ebooks are only for people who can’t sell to NY” and that still exists in some part, but overwhelmingly, this attitude has passed. I get just as much reader love, if not more, for my digital books as I do those paper books. People who discovered me in one format often explore across format and publisher lines to check out my other stuff and then in turn discover other authors too. Each time someone gets a digital reader and realizes that the screen is NOT like looking at your computer, and how easy it is to buy and read books that way, one less stereotypical view about digital formats remains.

I love that.

So – to celebrate Read An Ebook week I’m going to give some away! How about we start with TRINITY? As BENEATH THE SKIN is out in less than a month now, I’ll give away the beginning of the de La Vega series to one commenter and announce the winner tomorrow at 9 am pacific.

I was fed up with feeling “left out” so I got myself finally a Kindle last October and the first book I read on it was Chasin’ Eight by Lorelei James. And I do not regret getting one. I’ve read so many great books since then that are only published as ebooks (so far, at least).
    Thank you for the giveaway!

I already have the Trinity e-book so don’t enter me.

My first e-book was Keri Arthur’s book 1 in the Riley Jensen series, Full Moon Rising. That was over 2 years ago and many hundreds of e-books have been purchased and devoured since then. I love, love, love my e-reader and can’t read a paperback/hardback due to the print size and weight. Plus, I have a serious addiction to buying new books even though I have hundreds of unread titles on my Kindle. Kindle Addicts Anonymous raise your hand! πŸ˜†

Actually, I only got my first ebook was not very long and the first thing I ordered was the Chase brothers. I kept reading the excerpts and was hooked, so I went ahead and got all of them. Followed them up with Lorelei James, Mckay Brothers first 3 books. What fun in a little machine!!!!

I got a Kindle Fire for my birthday. I wasn’t sure if I wanted that or the Touch so I ordered a free book to see what it was like. The book was Entangled and I still have not finished it. I started downloading all kinds of stuff and I love it. I think my first purchase though was Dangerous Boys and Their Toy by Shayla Black. Thanks for the giveway!

I think it was Chasin’ Eight by Lorelei James. It took me a while to get used to reading on Kindle. But now I love it.

My 1st ebook was Jeaniene Frost’s Halfway to the Grave. I was hooked and slighlty obsessed with the whole Instant Gratification aspect. Giving Chase was my 1st Lauren Dane and I then blew through the series, and all your other offerings. Now I’m lost without my Nook! Thanks for all the great giveaways!

I got my Kindle probably about 6 months ago. I can’t remember off hand if “Triad” was my actual first book read or not, but it is the first one I was sucked into! OMG!!! Love that book!!! I immediately informed my best friends that they had to read it NOW!!!! I can’t wait to have the $ to get more of Ms. Dane’s books!

I don’t want to win Trinity because I’ve already got it! Got my Kindle in the fall and am now up to 130 books which I can carry around in my purse! I started with paperbacks of your Federation series and in the meantime I’ve downloaded them digitally as well so that I do not have to miss my favourite books when I’m not at home. On the other hand I still enjoy holding a book in my hands and turning the pages! So I’m sure I’m going to buy books in both forms in the future. It’s good if you can have the best of both worlds! πŸ˜€

I already have Trinity so don’t enter me. My first ebook was the first in Maya Banks Colter series. I still read print but I also love being able to keep way more books on a tiny portable reader.

I got my first ereader back in 2005 or so. It was a Gemstar (this was pre e-ink). Not a huge selection of books back then and I can’t actually remember what my first book was. On my Kindle, my first book was Twilight (it sure was easier to carry around in ebook format).

My first ebook was soon after I set up my brand new computer, in early 2004? when I first discovered Ellora’s Cave. I haven’t a clue what book it was because I have bought and read and reread so many since, and the desktop I started reading ebook PDF’s on has since crashed πŸ™

I love discovering new ebook publishers and new authors, since I read so fast I am constantly looking for new ebooks to add into the rotation of 1 new book to about every 10-15 rereads.

I have had a nook for quite awhile now (a first gen. along with the pc & mobile apps) and have considered buying the nook simple touch, but am still happy with what I have so will probably wait until I absolutely have to buy another. I also use the kindle pc & mobile apps, so there’s no lack of ability to read ebooks here πŸ˜€

Thanks for the chance at winning Trinity!

My very 1st ebook was Colter’s wife by Maya Banks. I downloaded the Kindle app for PC and was hooked. It didn’t hurt that it was free, but now I can’t seem to get enough. I have the kindle app on my iPhone and iPad and I love the freedom it gives me to read anywhere anytime. I have never enjoyed reading as much as I do now. I use all my amazon GC for books and if anyone asks what to get me I tell them amazon GC. I can’t believe all the series that i have read already, too bad I can’t quit my job and read all the time. πŸ˜›

I can’t tell you which e-book I read first because I bought 1 book by a couple different authors. Lora Leigh’s Breeds, Shelly Laurenston’s Pack Challenge, and Lauren Dane’s Cascadia Wolves Enforcer. I have been hooked on ebooks since! It’s so much easier to find new authors with ebooks. My mom had talked to a sales person in a local store about their book selection not having very many romance and the response she got was “I order what I like to read and I DON’T read romance.” Nice, huh?

Holy Crap it seems like so long ago (about three years now). I do not remember. I do not buy actual books, if I can’t get it in ebook either from the library or buying it, I do not read it. I know that seems bad (or at least I get told that all the time) but I just really would rather have it in ebook or not at all.

Christmas 2009 my 5 children pooled together an bought me an e-reader. The first book I read on it was Through Wolf’s Eyes by Jane Lindskold.

I’d had the download on my laptop for ages but never found the time to read it – I read it within two days on the e-reader and haven’t looked back since πŸ˜€

My first ebook was by Brenda Jackson – Taming Clint Westmoreland back in 2009. It was then that I became an avid e-reader. I don’t leave home without my Kindle. Since then anything by Lauren Dane, Shelley Laurenston, Rachel Gipson, Shiloh Walker, Lorelei James and Maya Banks gets read as soon as I get them. I really enjoy and connect with their work πŸ™‚
