Behind The Cover

Authors rarely get to interact with the people who are on our covers, or even the people who actually do them. I get a gorgeous cover in my email box and I am grateful for all those rock hard abs, or the sexy clench – but I don’t usually know who the models are. This week I found out by happenstance that the guy on my cover for INSIDE OUT is a model named Jason Sokody. He and his abs and handsome face have also graced some other rather gorgeous covers (Anya Bast’s Jeweled and Monica Burns’ Assassin’s Honor too). I don’t want to post his shots here, I believe they’re probably licensed or whatnot – but you can click his name above and it’ll take you to his page and you can see the other work he does.

Add to this beautiful cover, the awesome talent of Tony Mauro He’s done all my contemporary covers for Heat and I love each and every one. So vivid and beautiful. He’s taken the tattoos and made them such a sexy and gorgeous centerpiece of the series as a whole. I am so excited to be able to have him do my covers! Tony also does covers for Anya Bast and Yasmine Galenorn (among others).

Berkley has done me such a service by branding my series with such gorgeous and memorable covers. They’re not just pretty, they fit the stories and this group of people so well. I’m so excited to see what they do for Adrian’s book! When they’re all done, I’m going to put them all on the wall of my office because I want to look at them whenever I like, LOL.

To me, a great cover is priceless. It’s promotion in and of itself. It makes a reader’s fingers itch to pick it up. It telegraphs things about the story to get the attention of people who look for those things. Every author I know gets excited about a great cover, but a lot of the time, the people who make the cover are unsung.

So to Rita Frangie who hand drew all the pretty scrollwork on my Federation Chronicles books, and who has a huge part in why Berkley covers are often so striking, Tony Mauro who has breathed life into my Brown Siblings covers, Jason Sokody for working out so much your body has become a canvas for Cope and Ella’s story to the other handsome guys on all my covers they’re featured on, the beautiful women on them, Laura Corliss who does text design for Berkley, S. Miroque who designed my Insatiable cover, Mandy Roth working as Natalie Winters who has given me awesome covers for Samhain, Anne Cain, Frauke, Scott Carpenter, and I know I’m missing people – but I do appreciate you all so very much. THANK YOU for using your awesome talents toward making my books eye catching.

So! Cool! 🙂 It’s always fun to get a little glimpse into a process you’re normally in the dark about. Or, not even the process, but the parts.
And I’m just babbling, but the point is – neat!

Mesmerized is my favorite so far, but they are all wonderful. How fun to know some of the back story of the covers. I always wonder about that! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
