Laid Bare With Flair Contest – Day Fourteen!

2009

More Flair today! Today I thought I’d offer up a cool mini playlist for my upcoming book Trinity! Five songs, a few for story, a few for the characters. This is an iTunes playlist so I can only send them to people who have the ability to receive music from iTunes.

I make playists for every single book I write. It guides me through the story, giving me a touchstone to return to if I get interrupted and keeping my head in the book.

In Trinity, we’ve got a heroine who has been alone for a lot of her life. Even in a room full of people she was different, an outsider. The heroes are both rooted in family. Jack with his chosen family and Galen with his very insular world of cat shifters. This particular book is very related to my playlist because part of Renee’s personality is that she loves disco music. There’s also some sexin type songs, some rock, some emo ballads, etc.

Today’s question: What book did you finish most recently and do you have a song or type of music you’d associate it with?

I’ll choose a winner tomorrow! Remember, I’m in DC so my schedule will be off this week!

    Hi Lauren:

Actually, I’m just finishing “Undercover”, by you know who.

I’ve had a really hectic schedule myself the past couple of weeks so fitting in my reading has been tough.

That being said, I listen to a lot of John Mayer’s work and “In Your Atmosphere”, is one of the songs that I would associate with “Undercover”, but the other one is “Live To Tell”, by Madonna.

    Thank You!
    Have a great day.
    L 😀

I have a series of lists of songs on my Nano so that when I walk I can set the pace depending on the terrain. However, the list I most use is the 50’s

I just finished Thief of Mine by Amarinda Jones. No music is associated to it for me, but I usually don’t listen to music when reading.

I just finished reading “Leave Me Breathless”
by Trista Ann Michaels. I can’t really think of a song that talks about threesomes. Maybe the theme song to the show Three’s Company? lol

    Wow.

I have read about 10 books in the last few days. I would have to say the biggest song that impacted a book I was reading was Who We Are by Ryan Calhoun and I was listening to it as I read “The Wedding Girl.”

Silent in the Grave. This was a Historical so I don’t really have any music in my head for this one specifically.

I just finished “The Soldier” by Rhonda Nelson, literally less than 10 minutes ago. Songs? Ummm… well I’ve recently rekindled my relationship with my ipod, and song after song that slayed me played. One really struck me – and it’s killing me I can’t think of it right now. So… I’ll go with… Corner of Your Heart – Ingrid Michaelson. And as I look over the lyrics, it’s exactly how the heroine is. (But in a good way.)

I finished Darkness Calls by Marjorie M. Liu. I didn’t think of any music for this book as Marjorie incoporated it in the book, but I could hear the songs in my head as I read the book.

I’ve had a bit of a lull in reading lately. I usually read on the train on the way to work and back and I can sometimes get up to five books read in a week, plus a few e-books at the weekend.

This past two weeks, the train schedule has been topsy turvy due to working on the tracks and I’ve had to take new routes and watch where I’m going so I don’t miss my stop. Now that I’m familiar with them, I can tuck back into a book next week.

I don’t usually think of music when I read a book. I don’t listen to music very much as my tastes are very different than my husbands, so I only listen to my types of music when he is out of the house…hehe!!

I guess as I like dark, paranormal romances, I could associate Evanessence and Nightwish to some of the books I read.

I don’t listen to music very much and have never thought of associating music with a book.

I am reading several books at once. I have a book for my commute, one for home, one for day and one for evening. The book that I just finished is Ice Cold Grave by Charlaine Harris. Music that I associate with it is the Crash Test Dummies, Oingo Boingo, Fastball, Days of the New and Depeche Mode.

    Burn by Linda Howard.
Hmmm….maybe I Should Be So Lucky, lol.
Oh, and Christina, I love the musicians you’ve got listed there!!
I’m not so much one to associate things with music. If I hear a song I really like, it might make me think of a book, person, show, etc., but the opposite is usually not true…unless I’ve read about authors playlist, then I’ll hear those songs w/ certain scenes. I have to say you and Megan are the ones that started that trend in my head…..

I just finished an anthology called Games Girls Play by Deanna Lee and it was HOT HOT HOT! I seem to be humming “We’re Having A Heatwave” a lot now…..not sure if it has to do with the book, my own personal summer I’m having or the actual 100 plus temps outside….could be from all 3!

I find that I am finishing a book every couple
of days, the most recent, which I finished
yesterday, is Christine Wells’ Wicked Little
Game. I immediately began Janelle Denison’s Wild For Him.

I sing in the choir at our church so most of the music running through my head tends be of the ecclesiastical vein. The latest I remember “singing in my head” is one of my special favorites, “Fly Like A Bird.”

The book I finished recently was Hidden Currents by Feehan, and really never thought of a song associated with it.

I’m reading two books at the moment, Angie Fox’s second book (love that author) and I tend to think of the classic biker songs for the biker witches for that one.

Just finished Elisabeth Naughton’s Stolen Fury. I never thought about putting a story to music before, but this one would have to be something fast and furious, mysterious to keep up with the action!

Just finished Sharon Sala’s the Healer. Loved it!! Let’s see, mountains of West Virginia, Native American Healer, small town, I’d have to cast it with bluegrass from the 40s or earlier (Cold Mountain soundtrack comes to mind) and Native American Prayer drums.

I just finished Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh and I don’t have a particular song in mind to go with that book. The book rocked.

I also finished Drop Dead Georgous by Kimberly Raye and I can’t think of a particular song for that either. It would definitely have to be something played in a Honkey Tonk based on the location of the book.
