Hotter After Midnight – A Review and a Contest!

You can read for yourself in the excerpt below but Hotter After Midnight is a really good book. Cynthia Eden takes all my favorite things about the paranormal genre and gives them an interesting and unique twist. It’s sexy – like hella, grab you from the first time Colin and Emily lay eyes on each other sexy.

Emily is smart and not in a contrived sense. She’s very human even though she’s a little more than human with her gift. She’s tortured in her own way, weighed down by the secrets she keeps. Eden does a great job with her inner dialog, not going overboard with it but lending a sense of intimacy well matched to Emily’s character.

Colin is well, guh, whoo, guh, hot. Dark. Tortured. He’s got a secret. He’s very very alpha but not crossing the line into jerk.

The mystery element is well crafted, creepy without going over doing it. There are some truly suspenseful moments through the story and I thought it was weaved into the overall romance storyline well. LOVED the worldbuilding.

Hotter After Midnight drew me in from the very first scene. I’d just meant to peek at it but I ended up gobbling the whole thing down in one big read because I just couldn’t put it down. Cynthia Eden has a damned bright future ahead of her – grab Hotter Than Midnight – you won’t be sorry!

And now to the contest! The book comes out officially on the 29th so between today and 9 pm eastern on the 28th I’ll run a contest. Just comment here on your favorite paranormal romance book or author or heck, even your favorite kind of creature and you’ll be entered. I’ll choose a winner at random on the 28th and send the book via Amazon prime right then. Good luck!!

I enjoy werewolves since I came across the genre a few months ago. That was the first time I even read a paranormal romance.

Hi Cynthia! Thanks for the great review.

I’ve just finished reading the first two of Rhyannon Byrd’s Bloodrunners (Last Wolf Standing and Last Wolf Hunting), and immediately before that read all of your Cascadia Wolves! What a drag that you’ve finished that series, but we all have to move on. I must say, I really enjoyed the characters and stories in the Cascadia books, and am starting next on some of your others.

I’d have to say Jeaniene Frost’s Halfway to the Grave. Love that series and especially her hero, Bones. HOT!!!

I love all kinds of creatures, but I suppose shifters are my favorite followed closely by vamps. I’m a traditionalist at heart. *g*

Really hard to pick only one favorite for any of those catagories so I’ll just answer what comes to mind at the moment. My favorite book is “Tiger Eye” by Marjorie M Liu. My favorite creatures to read about are shape-shifters. And my favorite authors are a very long list of which your included wholeheartedly.

Hello! I found your blog while blog-hopping. “Hotter After Midnight” looks very interesting.
I’m not particular about the kind of paranormal creature. Shifters, vampires, demons, ghosts, angels, devils, wizards are all great. I tend to like the powerful ones who use their abilities to rescue the heroines/ heroes or do good for the world.

You know I don’t think I have a favorite “type” of paranormal and I have too many favorite authors to name just one. I love shifters of any kind but I enjoy wizards, witches, vampires and others too LOL I just enjoy really well written stories.

My favorite is always the one I’m currently reading. I like everything. Some of the most unforgettable characters (I’ve read recently) have been by Joey W. Hill, Sydney Croft, Rhyannon Byrd, and Kresley Cole.

This is my favorite genre to read. My favorite author is Sherrilyn Kenyon, I’ve read all the Dark-Hunter series. I read When He Was Bad by Cynthia and Shelly Laurenston and loved it. I’m looking forward to this one. My favorite creatures are the vamps but love reading them all.

Oh I do love Paranormals! Although I have to admit that it’s a fairly recent favourite. I was in no way, shape or form a fan of the genre until I read a book that had been recommended as a great read: J.R. Ward’s Lover Awakened; this was in the fall of 2006, so I guess it wasn’t really that recent.
Once I realized it was a vampire story I nearly didn’t read it, but I had just bought it and I hate wasting money, so what the heck? Uh yeah… famous last words. By the time I had got to page 3 I realized that I had to get the first two books, which I went out immediately to get. And I never looked back!
That book got me hooked onto paranormals and while I like just about all the different “types”, I’m not a big fan of the ‘god’ ones. But if I had to pick a favourite one, it’d have to be werewolves a la Angela Knight, Kelley Armstrong, Patricia Briggs, Keri Arthur, etc. But in reality it’s the author more than the type that make them favourites.
I’ve also got Wolf Unbound on my ebook TBR queue… along with lots of other books… too many excellent stories, not enough time. 😕 🙁

I love the shifters and Vamps! I love your wolves – they were the first paranormals I ever read. I love Bianca D’Arc’s Dragons and her Lords of the Were. Jaci Burton’s Devlin series was just wonderful too. I recently picked up Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series and just loved them!

Too many! I can’t decide who I like best! 😆

I just finished (and reviewed) Emma Holly’s latest, Demon’s Fire, and it just blew me away. Her Demon World is one of the most creative things I’ve come across in the paranormal genre, evah. And the fact that she’s combined it with erotica? Yum. 😉
