And Yet, It’s Not All Bad - We Can Make A Difference Together

I’ll post more in detail on this later but for now, go check out Bam’s Blog for the details of Nothing But Red. This is a really special project done in memory of Dua Khalil Aswad a young woman who was recently attacked by a crowd of men (some members of her own family) who tore off her clothes and beat her to death while many others stood and recorded the event with their cell phones but did nothing to stop the murder. This was referred to as an honor killing as 17 year old Dua was seen with a boy who happened to be Muslim. Yes, she was brutally beaten to death for being seen with a boy of another faith and no one did a thing to stop it.

Skyla Dawn Cameron, inspired by Joss Whedon’s most excellent outraged essay after the murder has organized Nothing But Red. In her own words: What We’re Doing – We’re putting together an anthology of short stories, essays, poems, and art work, called “Nothing But Red.” The book will be produced as both a trade paperback and an eBook through Lulu.com with the proceeds going to Equality Now. The book will be released on April 7, 2008 (the one-year anniversary of Dua Khalil’s death). We are pleased to announce, officially, that the first essay in the book will be Joss Whedon’s original post, “Let’s Watch a Girl Get Beat to Death.” Our website is currently located at nothingbutred.wordpress.com.

Hop on over to Bam’s to read more about the project from Ms. Cameron.

It’s Titilating Tuesday!

This week is moving along at a brisk pace and I realize I’m leaving for RT in two weeks. I’d been hand beading tassles for my bookmarks and then I realized I have 1300 of them to do and there’s just no way I can finish so I gave in and ordered tassles. I’ll still have to thread each one, but that’s much less time consuming than hand beading, tying, cutting, etc. So the hand beaded ones will be promo alley ones and in my different prize baskets, etc. They are really pretty but the tassles look good too. They even shipped today, wich is a relief. Yes, I know I should have started a month ago. I had plans to but it never happened.

It’s spring break for my kiddos this week and they’re being very quiet right now. I went in to check on them because quiet = trouble but they’re all snuggled up together on the couch watching a movie. I don’t know what happened to my children and when the switch was made to these small aliens but whatevah, I’ll keep em.

I’m having a chat this Saturday, April 14th at 5 pm Pacific/8 eastern at Romance Reader at Heart - my first one with them! Come on by and say hello and grab the chance to win copies of Giving and Taking Chase!

Excerpts up at my messageboard from Making Chase and Sword and Crown - come on by and say hello!

Okay, I have laundry to do. The pile that never ends. Sigh…

Survived the Reading!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This is the book table from the Reading last night. As you can tell, it’s at Babeland, a most wonderful sex toy store here in Seattle. Excellent background for the pictures I must say. I was fortunate enough to have been in excellent company. Lacy Danes I already know and love but I finally got to meet Bonnie Edwards, Celia May Hart and Susan Lyons.

Bonnie and Susan write some really hot contemporaries - Bonnie’s reading was from Midnight Confessions - a ghost story! Bonnie had great rapport with the audience and didn’t seem a darned bit nervous. Susan read from Hot in Here and Hot Down Below - yes, you guessed it, sexy firefighters!

Celia May Hart and Lacy both write historical erotica - Lacy read from her recent release, What She Craves while Celia read from Made for Sin and Show Me.

I read two excerpts - a short MMF scene from Vengeance Due and a longer one from Enforcer. The best compliment of the night was from the manager who told me she’d start recommending Vengeance Due to customers who came in asking for how to books on fellatio! I was nervous at first but once I started reading it was fine. In the end I had a great time and a great many of my friends came so thank you! I’m hoping to do it again some time now that I’ve done it and survived.

This is just before reading from Enforcer - it was a good thing I blushed when I read because it was cold last night and the door was open. I didn’t feel the cold at all until I finished my spot both times. Odd how that works!
