Today’s Guest is Carly Phillips!

I happen to not only think Carly is a fabulous writer I’ve admired for a very long time, but she’s also a dear friend and I love her to pieces. So give her a big welcome!

KARMA

Police Officer Dare Barron has had a crush on Liza McKnight ever since he was a teenager. But despite his lifelong attraction, the closest he’s ever come to interacting with her is watching Liza regularly bail out her brother at the station.

Dare’s dark past with Liza’s brother, Brian, has always kept him from pursuing her. But suddenly Liza finds herself in need of protection and Dare appoints himself as the man for the job. And while the sizzling attraction between Dare and Liza draws them together, the past that Dare and Brian share threatens to keep the two apart forever.

What Makes a Hero?

In my Serendipity series, I’ve done three very different heroes. Ethan, the bad boy; Nash, the “too perfect” hero; and Dare, the protector. I love them each in their own way – kinda sounds like my kids, right?

As much as I love bad boys as a reader, I have to say I have a new favorite hero as a reader and a writer and that’s the protector – and when Liza came into the picture, that’s who Dare Barron morphed into for me. The protector.

Liza is a woman who has never had anyone who had her back. Her family isn’t worth much to her emotionally and yet she is the glue, the strong one, the one who pulls her alcoholic brother back from the brink, time and time again. Enabling or loving? That’s something she needs to come to terms with. But when Dare enters her life, suddenly she is faced with someone who is there for her. Who takes care of her. And she doesn’t know what to make of that.

It’s sad and sweet at the same time. I think Liza and Dare ultimately heal each other. But it’s Dare’s protective nature even as he is fighting his past and his demons, that makes him so attractive and compelling.

So what kind of hero are you most attracted to? The hot, take charge Alpha? The guy who needs fixing himself? The protector?

One lucky commenter will win their choice of a Serendipity backlist book – Serendipity, Kismet (e-book only), or Destiny!

I’ve heard wonderful things about Carly Phillips’ works but have not read any. I think it’s time to start buying and reading. I need to find out what I’ve been missing!

Though I do love the alpha-protector type hero, I do have a soft spot for for the scarred, emotionally and physcially, hero. I like the smarty-pants, smirking hero, too!

Carly’s book are great. I think I’ve read them all so far. Gonna get Karma today.
I like the Alpha-males when they come up against a headstrong woman that needs protecting. A frustrated hero is so fun to watch. of course, I also like the ” you love me and you know you can’t resist me” sure of himself guys, too.

Oh my gosh, I know that this is a complete non-answer, but I LOVE a combination Take-Charge-Alpha-Protector Hero who still has his own demons that he is battling – I love the idea of being “cared for” and “protected”, I guess 😉 – yet it is good to know that we’re all still “Works In Progress” – I think finding that “right” partner really helps the healing and strengthening process! 😛

Your books are great and thank you SO much for the chance to win of your books!

I love all those heroes. As long as he is well written, I am in love! But I do love a man takes charge when it is important, in the bed!

I’ve read Serendipity and loved it! I like what you say about Dare and Liza, sounds like a great story.
About the heroes I prefer, that’s a tough question. I love alpha males and heroes who are emotionally scarred. I think I like all the types of heroes and it mostly depends on how the author deals with them. And I really like the heroes you create, Carly! Thank you!

Thanks, all! Great to hang out here. 😉 Sometimes I don’t even (most times – as a reader) analyze what kind of hero I like. A great book is just that. But it’s fun to discuss anyway!

I’m partial to the alpha hero as I assume most people are too. You just can’t go wrong with a hero who knows what he wants and how he wants it.

What I find so intriguing about this book, is the history of the characters which would make you think there’s no way they can find their way to each other. Can’t wait to see how it all develops. Have really enjoyed this series so far. Thanks, Carly. Don’t know where your inspiration comes from, but hope you never lose it!

I love a protective hero. That is the main reason I love romantic suspense stories. The heroine is usually in danger in a romantic suspense. The hero’s need to protect her is what keeps me coming back for more.

I have read many of Carly’s books & have enjoyed every one of them. I have read Book 1 & 2 in the Serendipity series & have grown to like these three brothers. I have been anxiously waiting for Dare’s story & can’t wait to start it.

A hero should be driven by the right instincts to do the right thing. He must be willing to make the hard decisions. He must be willing to communicate with those around him. And he must love his heroine with his everything! I am so excited to find Carly Phillips here are Lauren Dane’s site. Yippee!

What a great question… I think for me it has to be between the hot take charge and the protector. Fun can be had with both and its fun to see how the women react to those characters and how they cope with it. Love the sound of this series
