Heart of Darkness – Meet Dominic Bright (Contest is now Closed)

Dominic Bright is the hero if my upcoming Heart of Darkness.

Dominic is a witch who’s grown up outclan – or outside the governance of a clan system. He was raised by his foster father after his parents died when he’d been an infant. So when he meets Meriel he’s been stealing magick from the Clan’s font (sort of a well for their magick), she has no idea what she’s in for. He’s the antithesis of what she is. Where she was born and raised live and breathe Clan Owen, he was raised to distrust them all. I loved writing them together on the page!

Here’s a little taste of Dominic and Meriel from November 1st’s HEART OF DARKNESS:

She wasn’t surprised that he knew she was there. His awareness of that fact was quite clear as she approached. The energy of his focus on her pricked at her skin. Not painful, but clearly could be if necessary. Still, nothing could have prepared her for the sight that greeted her. She knew his eyes were pale green even though the room was dimβ€”eyes locked on her like a predator.

Dominic Bright in the flesh was a punch to the gut. A sensory wallop of total and unbelievable hotness.

Sprawled in a booth in a roped-off VIP section, his physical presence was nearly as large as his magickal one. The dark T-shirt he wore stretched over tight muscles and broad shoulders. Black boots peeked from the bottom of his jeans. Long legs stretched out before him.

Masculine. The man was breathtakingly masculine. Sharp features marked him, heavy-lidded, sexy eyes, a goatee; his shoulder length hair was thick and she wondered what it would feel like between her fingers. His lips promised such carnal delights she had to take a deep breath to steady herself.

His energy was immense. He had reserves she’d lay odds he had no idea how to use. She wondered if he even knew he was a Council witch. So much raw power emanated from him she wanted to lean in and take a long sniff.

Since that would undermine her own position and power, and since most people didn’t smell each other in public, she refrained from the aforementioned sniffing and found her own center.

His gaze caressed up her body and settled upon her face. “Welcome to the Heart of Darkness, pretty witch.”

His voice was deep and scratchy. He didn’t yell over the music and yet she heard him perfectly.

She continued her approach, steadying legs that may have buckled had she been a lesser woman, stopping finally when her thighs touched the table. The scent of his magick hung about him like a heavy cloak. And fed her like she’d been starving.

“Mr. Bright, you’ve been a very naughty boy.”

“So I’ve been told a time or two. I take it you’re Clan Owen here to spank me.”

This is who I pictured as I wrote him:

Sexy Shark himself Michael Fassbender….

And this is his song:

Nine Inch Nails – Where is Everybody

Anyway I had a great time writing him. He ranks right up there as one of my favorite heroes ever. I hope you all like him as much as I loved writing him πŸ™‚

Oh – wanna win an ARC of HEART OF DARKNESS? I’ll choose a winner for my very last paper ARC on Tuesday October 18 at noon from the responses to this post – Did you see any good movies over the summer? I mainly catch movies on DVD or On Demand, but I enjoyed X Men First Class and Thor was pretty and fun.

I would have to the Second Harry Potter Movie finale. As much as I like to complain that movies don’t follow the book it really was a pretty good ending.

It’s sad, but I don’t think I saw any movies this summer. 😯

I think I only saw one movie this summer and it was Crazy, Stupid, Love. I enjoyed it for obvious, Ryan Gosling-related reasons.

I saw too many movies to pick just one or two…or three…
But if I must I’d have to say Pirates of the Carribean….I know it wasn’t the best one but I can’t resist Johnny Depp.

My all time favorite movie from this summer was Transformers-Dark of the Moon. There were more that came out& I want to see eventually, but like you I usually wait til they come out on DVD or On Demand. Captain Amerce is due out soon and I really want to see that next.

We don’t have on Demand and seldom go to the movies; sometimes my daughter and I will go but for some reason or other we haven’t this year. Now I know she wants to see Breaking Dawn so maybe there’s hope for me yet! πŸ˜†

I’m so gone for Michael Fassbender – just watched the “extras” on XMen First Class last night. πŸ˜€
I’ve got to know – what’s that picture/a screen cap from? Was it just a photo shoot? I can’t remember seeing Fassbender in anything like that. Though of course I haven’t seen every movie he’s been in. I’m trying though! πŸ˜‰ [And I’d say watching “Blood Creek” shows dedication…]

Oh and no need to enter me in the giveaway – no more print books for me!

Okay, it was a tail-end-of the summer thing, but I FINALLY caught movies at the Toronto International Film Festival. What did I see? The sexy shark himself in “Shame” – so, so worth seeing but also deeply unsettling – and Mira Sorvino in “Union Square”. Both are worth checking out when they are released!
Thanks for the chance to win.

Saw a number of movies this summer. X Men was good and I also enjoyed Harry Potter, Super 8, Mote Carlo, Thor, Fast Five, and Buck. Crazy Stupid Love was entertaining and Transformers was noisy. I just saw Ghostbusters in the theater and it was as funny and I caught more of the references this time around. The special effects also held up well.

I dont get out to the movies as much as I would like but I did manage to go see Thor and Cowboys and Aliens. Both of which were awesome movies in my opinion. The Cowboys and Aliens one sounds kind of iffy but they actually did a great job of pulling together 2 seemingly different genre’s. And Thor, well I expected it to be great after the previews. Thanks for the offer of your ARC. *fingers crossed in luck*

I’m not much of a movie person or tv for that matter. My husband usually has control of the tv and movie selection of the nite or weekend whatever the case may be. I’m usually in my chair curled up with a great book loosing myself in the pages and experiencing a great adventure. I look forward to many more adventures with more great Lauren dane books
