Take Me To Another World Contest Day #7 MOIRA ROGERS
Jun

2010

Today’s guests are Bree and Donna – the fabulously talented duo who make up MOIRA ROGERS . These two write really amazing books that you should definitely seek out if you haven’t yet!

This contest is pretty much the coolest thing every, because it embodies the request I have for every book I write, and every book I read: Take me to another world!

I’m a speculative fiction junkie. I like contemporaries and thrillers and suspense and action well enough, but the books that grab me, the books that thrill me–they’re the ones that take me to another world.

It could be literally another world, like Ann Aguirre’s Jax books, or Lauren Dane’s Federation series. It could be another version of our world, like Meljean Brook’s Guardian books or Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series. It could be the future of our own world, as so evocatively portrayed in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series, or the lack thereof as featured in Ellen Connor’s forthcoming apocalyptic romances.

To me, it’s not about the place. That can change. That should change, and I love the thousands of ways it can be altered, like chaos theory in motion. A butterfly flaps its wings and we get vampires in San Francisco. But when it comes down to it, what I love most are seeing people in those worlds, loving and living and struggling with all the human foibles that plague us every day.

I never feel alienated by a good speculative story. It’s the common threads that keep me coming back. The werewolf who harbors a silent crush. The spaceship captain who’s fighting with a friend. The wizard who can’t always make ends meet. Watching these human urges play out against a fantastical backdrop is the best kind of magic to me.

We’re all the same under the skin, whether we live on the moon or howl at it. And that’s what keeps me coming back, again and again.

Blurb (and you all can read an excerpt at Moira Rogers’ website)
Jackson Holt makes a decent living as a private investigator in New Orleans, home of one of the largest underground supernatural populations in the United States. He and his partners have never met a case they couldn’t crack…until a local bar owner asks him to do a little digging on her newest hire.

New Orleans is the fourth destination in as many months for Mackenzie Brooks, a woman on the run from a deranged stalker. After all, any man who shows up on her doorstep claiming to be her destined lover has more than a few screws loose. But crazy doesn’t explain why he always finds her no matter how far she runs.

When her well-meaning boss puts a PI on her case, Mackenzie comes face to face with the incredible truth: magic is real, and whatever spell has kept her hidden and separate from the paranormal world is rapidly deteriorating.

With time running out, she has no choice but to trust Jackson as he struggles to uncover the truth of her past-and her destiny.

TODAY’S QUESTION: What type of books do you seek out when you just want to escape? The winner will have his or her choice of CRUX in digital or paper! I’ll announce the name tomorrow at Tracy’s blog!

For me, any non-fiction book helps me to escape. Just reading about other adventures, love, fears, and triumphs is a great escape for me.

Depends on the kind of mood I’m in. Sometimes it’s all cowboys all the way. Sometime it is Knights and castles type. Other times it is paranormal. When I feel like I need a good cry I will go for a book that is more real life, but tragic.

I love adventure stories with love matches in it. I love series where all the characters find someone. I love urban fantasy and paranormal stories.

When I want to really escape I tend to pick paranormals or fantasy books, something different from everyday life.

I can get away in just about any romance or fantasy book. I love paranormals, fantasy and sci-fi book especially and that has been a love since I was a little kid. I do not have a very good imagination so it fascinates me what other people can come up with. I get sucked into other peoles lives and adventures, it is great.

When I desperately need an escape, I always go for a comfort read since I know they deliver. Those range from historicals to dragon shifters. Anything that is totally different from my own life!

Any book on my TBR shelf should do the trick. As soon as I get into the story, I’m in another place and time and I can forget about whatever it is I want to escape from.

I go for paranormal romance. I love romance but paranormal does it for me because the stories take place in mythical worlds. And in those worlds anything can happen including super hot mating scenes.

Either Urban Fantasy or PNR… it depends on if I primarily want to focus on a romance or not.

I’m strictly into reading romances so as long as it’s in the broader romance genre…well it’s all gold. I do have a soft spot for m/m romances, paranormal, erotic, sci-fi/futuristic, romantic suspense fiction – just need a HEA in the end.

Sometimes, I want to read about life scenarios which are similar to my own. Other times, I want to be completely involved by characters and life stories far outside my everyday world. No matter what I’m reading, I look for well-developed, involving characters and a detailed, interesting story line. You can find all of these things by reading romance novels. Whether you search for the familiar or the exotic, paranormal romance, romantice suspense, chaste love or deep sensuality, you will find it all in “romance novels”.

It depends on my mood. Lately, I can’t get enough of contemporary romances. The hotter the better. Sometimes I want a happy, feel good, funny romance. Sometimes I need a deep, pull-your-heart-strings romance. If I need a quick fix, I read HQN Blaze series.
But every once in a while I dip my feet back into the paranormal pool with some great, hot, sexy shifters or vamps or demons.

What type of books do you seek out when you just want to escape? Whatever I have in my TBR pile or what I have on my wish list which is usually extensive. When I’m in a funk, I usually go to my bookshelf and pick an old favorite.

Romance? LOL! But in particular, I have my comfort reads. The Mallory series from Johnana Lindsey and Diana Gabladon’s Outlander series. But romance in general is where I want to go when I need to escape. 😀

It really doesn’t matter what type of book I pick up…if the author grabs my attention, I’m theirs for the duration and everything else fades away.

It’s always going to be a romance, and which genre I pick just depends on what kind of mood I’m in 🙂 Lately, I’ve been loving the other-world feel of scifi/futuristic and paranormals.

My escape reading tends to be romance with hot, hot sex scenes. I like Kate Douglas’ Wolf Tales, Leah Brook’s Desire series, Carol Lynne’s Cattle Valley Books, or any of Claire Thompson’s BDSM books.

A sexy book accompanied by a cup of hot tea and I am transported to another time and place.

Depends on my mood, an exciting urban fantasy or a more romantic paranormal/contemporary romance, chick lit are mostly my choices when I want to just unwind and get far away from reality 🙂

    Tracy,
Am I too late for Moira’s contest or is it your’s. Not sure but I would love to have Crux. I choose paranormal romances or any mix thereof if shapeshifters have a starring role in the story. I prefer series books over stand alones because I get to know the characters as friends.

I like to read to get unstressed. I heard once that a good romance helped keep the blues away. It does. thank you all authors for the great stories.
