Today’s guest is one of my favorite paranormal romance authors, who also happens to be an exceptionally wonderful person – Cynthia Eden!
I Love Vamps.
By: Cynthia Eden
(Thanks so much to the lovely Lauren for inviting me over today!)
I saw my first black and white vampire movie when I was about eight years old. I wanted that vampire to get the lady he lovedβand I wanted them to be happy in his cold, dark castle. Instead, that poor vamp was staked.
Sad. So sad.
Years passed, but my love for the vamps just grew. I found the awesome Spike on the Buffy series. I rooted for him. Why, why couldn’t Buffy appreciate his awesomeness? I did.
Then came the very short-lived Moonlight show on CBS. Again, falling for my vamp. Only…yep, Mick vanished when the show was canceled.
Don’t others share my mad, bad vampire love?
The heroine of my latest book, I’LL BE SLAYING YOU, definitely doesn’t share my love. In fact, I think of her as the anti-me when it comes to vamps. For Sandra “Dee” Daniels, the only good vamp is a vamp with a stake shoved deep into his heart. Vamps killed her family, and she hates them. They aren’t sexy, they aren’t mysterious. Instead, to her, they’re just prey.
Oh, yes, she’s a vamp hater.
Does she stay that way? Well, guess you’ll just have to read the book (Read it! Read, read, read!) in order to find out.
What’s your take on the vamp? Sexy hero or evil monster? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. I’ll pick one random commenter to win an autographed copy of I’LL BE SLAYING YOU.
Thanks!

I enjoy reading about all types of vamps, but must say that I prefer the sexy ones.

I am a vampire lover all the way. Even if he looks creepy/evil I want him to get the womah he loves and they can live happily ever after in his dark, creepy castle. I, personally, couldn’t live in a creepy castle, but I could totally fall in love with a vampire.

Yeah, you know the thing that makes vamps such sexy heroes is that they’re the ultimate bad boys. Yum.

I think a little bit of both. The fun about vampire heroes is that they’re bad boys.

Andrea, I like all types too. If it’s a vamp story, I’m usually interested.
Diane, I think so, too!! Bring ’em on!
Casey, I don’t know if I could live in a creepy castle, either, but a visit there might be…interesting.

Hey, Lindy! Great answer!! Those vamps are ultimate (and eternal) bad boys.
So true, Spav! So true!

I’m with Eva in that they can be whichever they decide. π Would pick that the majority are like us just normal boring everyday vampires who happen to need to eat/drink blood to survive.
Like any society you then get the extreme’s the ones that want to kill everything and everyone and the ones that virtually starve themselves to show they aren’t evil.
Is interesting to read the different takes on vampires that each individual author brings to the table.

Definitely Sexy Hero with a touch of the bad boy syndrome.

I really like it when they are a little bit of both or when they start out more monster and become a sexy hero.

I’d say sexy hero…..but powerful enough to be scary too.

They can be both monster and hero sometimes in the same story depending if there is a need to protect what is theirs. Prefer the sexy hero but comforting to know he can rip the throat out of the enemy if need be.
