Frequently Asked Questions – Answered (ask if you have more)

Over the last several months I’ve received several of the same questions asked so I figured I’d answer some of them right here as well as reply to the senders!

1. What the heck were you thinking with that ending of Trinity!!

Trinity and the next book (gah, still untitled!) are a two book story arc WRT Renee and Kendra’s father and his wife and what they’re up to. That part of the story was way too big to put in Trinity in its entirety. The HEA for Renee, Jack and Galen was done in book one and in the next book (out in July) will also have a standalone HEA for Kendra and her hero (Max de La Vega).

All that said – yes, they are related to the Cascadia Wolves series and yes, some of the backstory is defined in those books (like how the mate bond works, etc). So if you pick up book seven in an established world, you might miss certain things, though many have read it without the others and been fine, some read it and were like, “What’s up with this guy just falling for Renee in five minutes!”

2. When will you write Skye or Phillip’s books? (In the Cherchez Pack series)

I’d like to and I’m always trying to find a way to do it. I want to give Phillip and Skye their HEAs. But my schedule is so tight and I’d be moving it to Samhain which means I’d have another series with books at two publishers which complicates matters. Right now I just don’t have the time to deal with what I know will be a more complicated situation and I’ve got several more books to write and turn in before I can even think about how to do it in reality.

3. Is your next contemporary from Heat going to be Adrian’s story?

Nope. The next book in the series is INSIDE OUT and it’s Cope’s book. It releases this November. But as soon as I finish writing it, I’ll do the proposal for Adrian’s book (I’ve got the basic idea in my head now, I just need to sit down and write the synopsis and some pages)

4. Will you be continuing your Federation Chronicles series?

Yep! The next book is Daniel’s story and it’s called INSATIABLE. It’s out in July and will be the start of a mini series about the special ops team Daniel leads called Phantom Corps. The second book is called Mesmerized, which is Andrei’s story and it’ll be out in April of 2011.

5. When will Trinity be out in print?

September of this year.

These are the most asked questions over the last few months but if you have others, g’hed on and ask! If I can give you an answer I will.

    Why is the sky blue?

Laid Bare and Coming Undone had some HOT scenes. My question is, and please don’t think me ignorant, is it hard for a writer to write same sex sex scenes? And what is your inspiration when writing them?

    Thanks

Maya – You are a smartarse. But as I am too –

Rayleigh scattering is responsible for the blue color of the sky. Light moves through the atmosphere and the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Other colors are affected differently (Yellow and orange for instance) Absorbed blue light is radiated in different directions, spreading it all over the sky so when you look around, you see blue skies above.

Erin- obviously I don’t know what it feels like to be a man having sex with another man, so a lot of an M/M scene for me is going to be about emotion and connection. Each character has different buttons emotionally and I want them to interconnect (no pun intended) with their lover in a way that is true to who they are.

So essentially, a scene between Ben and Todd is different than one between Galen and Jack.

My inspiration is usually set by what the motivation for the scene is in the overall story. Sometimes it’s heated and fraught with conflict, other times it’s deeply emotional and loving. It just depends on where I am in the story.

I’ve always been sorry that the Cherchez pack didn’t get it’s due. I loved Ascension. It’s the book you sent me to convert me to the “dark side”. Heh. (I think it worked).

And yup, it was a rather abrupt ending to Trinity, but I did love the book.

And totally looking forward to Cope’s and Daniel’s books! See? you converted me to futuristics, too. OK, well, you & NJ.

So, no questions, just comments today

Just want to say I am really looking forward to Cope’s story. I also have my fingers crossed as to who Adrian’s love interest will be. Please tell me it’s someone we’ve already met…please?

Lori – thank you for all the compliments! And yes, I wished for a different situation with those books too, though I loved writing them and I would be thrilled to do more.

FV – LOL! Not saying who Adrian’s match will be, not for a while anyway. It’s a secret!

Awesome questions. My two cents – the ending to Trinity made me literally sit up in bed and say to myself, “Sweet! That’s the set up for the next book! YAY!” It didn’t seem abrupt to me, but I don’t know if that’s the author in me talking or the fan girl. Maybe a bit of both?

As for Cherchez, all I can say is ‘Grrrr…’ I loved Ascension and Fire and Rain. Waiting impatiently for the next one but totally understand the pain in the azz situation.

    Later, chicklet!

OK fine! Don’t tell me who Adrian’s love will be. (Please let it be a certain someone who may be hard to love, and let there be angry sex and good make-up sex involved–amen) 😯

PS I won’t tell if you decide you can’t keep the secret to yourself any longer. πŸ˜†

I think you and I are thinking along the same lines for Adrian’s love interest. If we are thinking of the same person, I can already feel some smokin’ hot sexual tension mounting between the two of them!

Thanks for answering my question Lauren, Ben and Todd together were awesome! The emotional connection definitely poured off the pages. It was hot and yet beautifully written πŸ™‚

    Vixen & Erin, I’m sorry but i hope you’re wrong. I don’t think i can take a full book about that character.

Lauren please i beg you, give her to someone else! I think our beautiful Adrian needs someone in the music industry and perhaps a button-up in the outside but spicy inside. Know what i mean? πŸ˜‰

TJ – thanks! I knew it was a risk to end it that way, but truly as I was writing I knew I’d need two books to tell the whole story of the stepmother and all the magic stuff.

Rossy – LOL! I promise I will pair up Adrian with a woman who will challenge him and fill him up in ways no other woman can. He will get a heroine worthy of him!

lol I was just going to have smartass comment – but reading through the others… :X Looking forward to Adrian’s lady… but if I’m thinking the same character others are thinking… I’m with Rossy. No, plz.

And now I feel like I’m speaking doublespeak. Ugh.

Lastly, (of course Holly and I are joking… but…) WRITE MOAR FASTLY! ktnxbai

I am ashamed to say that I have only read Laid Bare *looks sheepish* This last year my hubby was in an accident and I had NO book budget. If it wasn’t for the fact that you are SO uber generous with your contests, I wouldn’t have even been able to read that one, which is now dog-eared and tear stained.
However, this is the year I plan to remedy that – hubby is back at work and within a few months we should be back on our feet financially speaking. So yay!
And thank you Lauren (I know I’ve said this over on FB and all, but it bears repeating) I know you work HARD to write these stories and Laid Bare has touched my heart and changed my life in some ways. So its never wasted.
Ok I’m done being all mushy and shit now…

I’m very happy the Federation novels is continuing–and I love the Phantom Corps storyline so I’m very excited about Insatiable. Mind, I hate knowing that I’ll have to wait until April 2011 for the next but… that’s the way the cookie crumbles, right?

Why is it that whenever I read a Lauren Dane book I end up losing sleep because I just can’t put it down?

Hey, I might have been the first person to email “argh!” at you because of TRINITY’s ending! (I got my copy before the official publication date as a blog giveaway.) First I’m up reading until 4 am. and then I’m left hangingÒ€¦ Luckily July *will* arrive eventually.

As it is, I’ve been using my time wisely and reading backlist–and losing sleep. Oh, and I believe I literally used “argh!” in my email. I’m eloquent that way.

(And if my comment is in any way odd or scrambled or whatever, blame the head cold/flu. I refuse to take responsibility. *g*)

I agree with rossy and limecello. I don’t tink I could read a whole book about a certin character. Am looking forward to Cope’s book. Loved coming undone and 2nd or 3rd more Cassadia series and if the mood ever strikes you more Witchs knot books!

Meg – I’d love to. The world is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, not enough readers really thought so. I may return at some future point, but right now, it’d be hard to sell.

Lime – LOL, Raven is one of those characters that people either love or hate.

Bonnie – I’m glad your husband is back at work and things are better! And thanks, your comments made me smile.

Azteclady!!!!! I’ve missed you! I’m alternating at Heat. Back and forth between the contemps and the futuristics, which means there’ll be a wait. It’s doable for me though, which saves me from burn out and I get to write two totally different genres to keep me from getting bored!

Bookjunkie – LOL! I’ve been sleepy the next day after many a book so I’m flattered to be an author who is worth staying up late for

Lauren-You did a fabulous job writing Raven. She’s so unlikable, but we all know there’s a reason under her tough exterior. The love of a good man *cough-Adrian-cough* could soften her right up. πŸ˜‰ Come on, do it! You know you want to. πŸ˜€

Lauren – I like Raven well enough – I’m sure she’s got a good reason for being… all damaged and everything… but … ugh plz plz plz not her with Adrian. That’s too… cliche and blech. :X

I think your FAQ should include all about how your editor said “um, what’s up with this ending in Trinity?” and made you change the original ending so it’s just a little less painful. Not that I, an anonymous poster, would know anything about that.

I just want to say that I have fell in love with your books. I read Laid Bare a few weeks ago and fell hard..lol. It was my first ever contemporary or erotic book. I normally only read PR or UF but your books have made me a fan. I have now read Coming Undone and Sweet Charity and will be working on others as well.

On another note, I have to agree with almost everyone here about not wanting Raven and Adrian together eww!! Yes I think a sex scene would be hot between them but that is it. I think Adrian deserves someone better. He is one of my favorites and Raven is not good enough for him no matter how much she changes!!

    Thanks for the AMAZING stories!!
