I've been having variations of this conversation with my husband over the past year or so ,and while I lament the decline of the traditional publishing mindset, I can also embrace the coming of the new. The problem at the moment is the muddle between the two models which we authors (and readers) are struggling to bridge.
When e-readers become standard and way cheaper and ebooks cost a dollar like an itune download, then we're all going to have to work out new ways to make money.

Thanks for an article that put it into perspective for me :)

Thank you for very thoughtful--and thought provoking--post. I appreciate it more than you can know. It's hard to feel like the lone voice in the wilderness.
