And for the first time in a month or so, a post that is not a contest or a RT reportback, LOL!
Book releases can do funny stuff to your life and suddenly, you look up and your house is a total disaster, you owe people like eleventy billion emails and phonecalls and life has continued on without you so you better move to catch up.
Speaking of life going on – Yesterday I attended what will be my very last kindergarten round-up. My baby girl is going to be in kindergarten in just a few months. Wow. It was good. She got to ride the bus around the neighborhood and practice getting on and off (though they only have one way bus service for the kindy kiddos – I’m thinking it’s much more just a fun thing than a real transportation option for them. The other two kids walked with me or I drove them once everyone had different schedules and I had to taxi everyone all over town.)
It felt like old hat at this point, which was sort of nice. In the beginning with one kid, it seems so frightening and you don’t know anything. But now, I’ve done it enough I know how it works and I just wanted to say to the principal, “they don’t care about this stuff. Explain the details about start and off times, about bus schedules for those kids on the bus, lunch for those kids in full day, how the full day lottery will work.” But these things are always this way, and that’s part of the wonderful too, IMO.
Next week, we do the middle school orientation for our oldest. That one will probably be one of those mom moments when suddenly out of nowhere the tears might prick the back of my eyes. When you look at them and realize nearly twelve years have passed since you brought them home from the hospital and now they’re a sometimes surly tween.
Middle kiddo, who is a great deal like Dennis the Menace, is doing well. He writes the sweetest notes to me and leaves them on my pillow. But then he says, “No, those aren’t from me. Those are from your secret admirer.” Which is awesome since they say, “Dear Momma” It’s the sweet that compensates for the “what the hell could you possibly be thinking to do that!” moments which he brings me many times a week. Kid’s gonna be one of those extreme sport people I think.
I’m working on Trinity (spin off from my Cascadia universe) and trying to catch up still from contests and being gone and kids being sick and my dude being gone for work – but it’s all beginning to get more orderly. And that’s a start.

My youngest is getting ready for her “graduation” Not only is my oldest graduating this June, so is the little one. So 2 graduation ceremonies but thank God they’re on different days. Little one will graduate on June 1 and oldest daughter will graduate on June 5th. It’s too cute…the little one also gets a cap and gown for her ceremony.

Wow, what a week, Lauren and Mad! I’ll be where you are in a couple years, Lauren–it’s amazing how quickly time flies! Thanks again for the contests–it was so much fun to have that to look forward to each day 🙂

Awww~ Elementary is when they begin to truly find themselves, make new friends and slowly make those baby steps away from thinking MOM is everything…and knows everything.
I miss those days. My baby is 16 and my oldest and my middle child are moving out and into their 1st real place this weekend.
Of course the oldest has already said “don’t fret Mom, we will still be back for dinners.”
LOL…he is 22 and though he’s moved out briefly with friends, neither he nor my daughter have ever gotten their OWN place, PAID for BY them.
This will be great for both of them to take pride in something they’ve done ALL by themselves.
Enjoy each moment with your little ones. Relish every recitile, parade and slumber party…for it’s gone so very quickly.

My eldest turns 21 this summer.
And the second/youngest/last child ever turned 16 in December and proceeded to get her driver’s license that week (PSA: if you live in Central Florida, stay off the roads)

Mad – awww! Adorable.
Fedora – it’s so true. One minute they’re taking their first steps and the next, they’re giving you attitude and starting middle school!
Dana – one of those wonderful bittersweet mom moments! You want them to have these new experiences but with each year, they grow and change and need you less, which is a good thing, but still, I’m glad they all want snuggles with me.
Azteclady – driver’s license? Oh man, that’s so close to my reality it makes me really nervous, LOL. And I think I’m older than you, so you’re not ancient at all (because I am totally not!)
Tez – he’s very sweet. A little gaggle of girls waits for him every morning when I drop him at school. He’s also a handful, but he’s my handful, LOL.

Because their birthday is in October, my girls won’t start Kindergarten this year. In some way I have mixed feelings about that. I look forward to a little more peace and quiet when they finally go but also realize that it means my babies are growing up and that each year goes by faster and faster.
