@ Cathie – yes, I think SEP does a great job of weaving in a cast of characters around a central theme (a town, a team, friends, etc)

@ Rachel – Linda Howard, especially her older stuff, has those alpha heroes that in the hands of a mere mortal would make you recoil. But she makes it work.
