Okay how about a contest? Reading Between the Lines will be out in trade paperback on Tuesday August 26! So here’s the deal – just below you’ll see a link to my interview with Azteclady at Karen’s blog. All you need to do is to reply here with one of the books I recommend to romance skeptics.
I’ll choose a winner a’la randomizer on Monday afternoon, August 25 – noonish my time (pacific). The winner will receive a copy of Reading Between the Lines in paper.

Ain’t She Sweeet by SEP, though I don’t know if I agree. Sugar Beth was just so hard to like, as was the hero. Great writing, as always, but the book didn’t fill me with hope and happiness the way I like my romances to do. I’m still trying to get my mom to like a romance novel and so far I’ve failed miserably. It’s a great interview question to ask!

@ Ciara – I resisted Ain’t She Sweet for two years because I thought, “who cares about a former cheerleader/mean girl” but I think SEP has such a magnificent talent for taking unconventional or unlikeable characters and making me root for them. I find it refreshing and I really did like Sugar Beth by the end.
@ AJ – I love it! I also re-read Bet Me last week and loved it again.

Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard – the one author you recommended who I’ve never read. Love Jennifer Crusie and SEP, though haven’t read the latter in a while.

I’ve heard a lot about Jennifer Cruise, so I’ll have to give Welcome to Temptation a try 🙂

I have read romance novels for over 20 yrs. Those who haven’t read romance are really clueless to how much this genre has evolve. I love Liz Maverick’s Crimson City!!
Romance just plain Rocks!

I actually had my non-romance reading book cub read Welcome to Temptation as a great intro to romance books. A few of them stopped reading after the dock scene. 🙂

See I actually have a hard time picking between Jenny Cruises Welcome to Temptation and Linda Howard’s Mr. Perfect cause they are both such great reads.

I agree the crimson city series rock. loved them and I completely agree about LInda Howards heroes. I wanted to I really liked REading between the lines. I like a kick ass heroine.

I just came back from there having read your prior post about your interview there and it as great reading Lauren!
I remember about AIN’T SHE SWEET by SEP. I heard many talk about her books but I had never read her! At that time AIN’T SHE SWEET was out and I was told it wasn’t a series so I got it from the library. Gosh I loved it. The small town, the relationships with the friends, their past and so much more. It really was a different read for me in that I haven’t read anything like this in too long. So its like you explained it too about her book, of how she had so many parts intertwined (sp?) in the book that was so much important to the book and a great voice to read.

Oh I wanted to mention that I love Linda Howards books, and she’s another that has many out that I’d yet like to read. One I haven’t read yet is Mr. Perfect so I’m gonna take the challenge up and read that one. I heard it was humorous and I never read anything humorous of Linda Howards!

I also love Linda Howard’s books. I had picked up Mr. Perfect, but I have not had the chance to read. I also love reading Jennifer Crusie’s books.

I love the Crimson City series. While I enjoyed all of the authors and their stories, my personal favorite was Crimson City by Liz Maverick.

@ Rachel – Linda Howard, especially her older stuff, has those alpha heroes that in the hands of a mere mortal would make you recoil. But she makes it work.
@ Ali – let me know what you think! That one and Bet Me are two I re-read all the time.
@ Cara – it totally does and yes, Liz Maverick is an awesome author.
