New Vampire Book

Sleight of Hand is releasing today! I’m quite excited, this is my first published novella and I do so love Lissie and Xander and I think in a few months I may revisit them and their universe again.

Care for an excerpt? (18 and over only PLEASE!)

With that same feral grin he’d been wearing some minutes before, he moved back to the balls of his feet. “As you command me then, my sweet. Turn around. Hands on the bar.”
She allowed herself the luxury of closing her eyes for a moment, internally celebrating the knowledge that he’d be inside her in mere moments. Turning, she gripped the bar, her body slightly bent, and her ankles hobbled by her pants.

Shivers rose as his hands stroked down her spine. Gentle and seductive, warmth spread in the wake of his touch. He continued over the curve of her ass and slipped between her legs. Those questing fingers spread her open and drew her honey through her folds. Desire slick and drunk with need, she pushed back against him with a whimper.

Chuckling, he leaned in and kissed the back of her neck. She gasped and then sighed as she felt him press the fat head of his cock against her gate and began his inexorable push into her body.

“Great god,” he murmured. “Lissie, you feel so fucking good around my cock.” Grunting, he pulled nearly all of the way back out, and with a flex of his hips, slamming back into her. Her reflection in the polished surface of the bar showed her biting her bottom lip. Before her eyes fluttered closed, she saw his lips curve up into a satisfied smile. “This is going to be over quick, I want you too much. I’ll be more refined next time. For now, hang on.”

His body caged her. Her heart belonged to him. She was his, and she was helpless to do little more than grip the bar tightly and hold on as he fucked into her in deep digs. A moan escaped her as he rolled and pinched a nipple with one hand. The other moved to her clit, flicking over it with a feather light touch. The way he knew her body was comforting and frightening all at once.

He increased his speed and hammered into her wet flesh as she writhed, trying to move, but held in place by his body and her pants. “I like you bound. We’re going to have to try that more often,” he said in her ear.

He loved her beyond redemption. Beyond reason. He would have done anything to have gotten her back. He realized and accepted that as her pussy sucked at him, pulling him back into her body’s embrace.

He loved the way she smiled, her laugh, the fearless way she ran her business and stood up for herself. He’d been bowled over by the way she’d softened toward his brother and hadn’t shown Alex any of her hesitation about having him with her in her house. He’d been afraid to admit it, but he couldn’t deny it any longer. He couldn’t hide behind love proxy words and phrases like he’d been falling for her or that he really enjoyed her. No. He loved her.

That realization, along with the way her pussy clutched at him, pushed him over the edge. He increased the pressure on her clit and nipple as he felt his orgasm build, rolling through his body from the tip of his toes to the top of his head. His scalp tingled and he threw back his head and whispered her name as his pleasure unleashed and poured into her body.

After the waves had crashed over him and she’d come, he bent, laying his head on her shoulder. Breathing hard, he enjoyed the feel of her pussy muscles twitching and grabbing at him. Loved the heat of her skin against his cheek and the scent of her body, of clean sweat and coconut. The scent of their sex mingled in the air.

Getting his breath back, he straightened and stood, tucking himself back into his jeans. Unable to resist, he pressed a kiss at the back of her neck.

Bookish

So on Saturday, I finished reading Caitlin R. Kiernan’s, Murder of Angels. Wow. Just. Wow. The prose is so incredibly beautiful that it made me want to weep at times that I’ll never write like that while at the same time celebrating the gorgeousness of the wordsmithing.

Horror, but not. Fantasy, but not. A book so strangely wonderful that it defies description and I highly recommend it.

I also finished Anthony Bourdain’s, Kitchen Confidential last week. Wonderful. Made me laugh my ass off. Taught me a few kitchen tricks and gave me some great ideas for tools for my kitchen. Plus, there’s something about Tony Bourdain that I find totally seductive. I think it’s the bad attitude, LOL.

Now I’m on to Rachel Gibson’s, Trouble with Valentine’s Day. Starts off nice, we’ll see how the rest goes. I like her humor.

And although I’ve had a myspace account for some months now, I actually spent some time and personalized it a bit. If you’re over there, here’s my page

Early Buzz on Sleight of Hand

I’m so excited! Yesterday I got a note from Michele, who won SOH at the Writerbabes blog. She said in part (I won’t put it all up, even though it was lovely and flattering because there’s a bit of a spoiler): ” I Loved IT!!!! Sleight of Hand was great…oooh, I loved the last line.. The ending was so perfect!’

And my first official review comes from Nannette at Joyfully Reviewed: Ms. Dane’s character’s are well written and a pleasure to read. Lissette is witty and tough but at the same time she is vulnerable. Xander is one gorgeous, powerful and sexy vampire. There are moments when they made love that they left me panting for more. These two really heat up the sheets!
(…)
Sleight of Hand is a very emotional book. It offers a different take on a frequently told story. Ms. Dane has taken issues that many women face and woven them into an exciting vampire romance! I highly recommend Sleight of Hand; it’s a relatable love story, it’s uniquely told, and it is smoking hot!

Thank you Nannette and Michele!!

Saturday Morning Stuff and Junk

I had such a great time last night at the Romance Diva chat. It was my first chat with them and I’ll definitely be back.

Thing is, I love to talk to readers cause I’m one too. And erotic romance readers are so fun to talk with. It was an added bonus that NJ Walters and Sylvia Day were the other two authors who were in the chat with me. Both of these women are amazing writers and truly nice people who deserve the success they’ve gotten.

After chat and getting the kids down, I wrote for several hours until Battlestar Galactica. Wow. Last night’s episode was really intense and had a clever twist on the Six/Gaius relationship. I’m so glad that the turn for the worst that the show experienced for several weeks near the beginning of the season seems to have passed. Loads of meta issues going on. I loved it!

More utterly fluffy news, I bought a new handbag yesterday, gorgeous. And new jeans from the misses department. My husband said, “wow, you look like you’re in high school” but in a complimentary way. He’s the best, LOL. I haven’t worn this size since before college. Now I have cute jeans to wear with my fabulous boots in Vegas! Yeah.

I’m reading Caitlin Kiernan’s Murder of Angels. This book is so beautiful and haunting and scary and uncomfortable that it makes me want to weep. If you haven’t read it, even if you don’t like horror, go and get it. Honestly, it’s amazing writing.

Don’t forget that I’m chatting tonight at Romance Divas! They have some excellent forums there and they’re a great place to hang out. 6 pacific/9 eastern!

And I have a myspace account. I’ve had it since November but haven’t done much with it. Can’t say I’m overly excited about the lack of interaction between users but I’ll give it a try keeping it up. I’m starting to customize it a little bit thanks to Michelle Pillow’s helpful tips. I’m not done over there but it does look better than it did two days ago. Anyway, the URL is http://www.myspace.com/lauren_dane

I watched Doom last night. Yeah, it’s academy awards season and I want to see all the nominees for best picture. BWAH! I crack myself up. Okay, so I wanted to look at Karl Urban for an hour and a half. Only the movie is nearly 2 hours long. It was about twenty minutes longer than I thought was necessary and I thought the personality change in the end with Sarge was out of nowhere. But the Rock shirtless? Yeah, I’ll muddle through. And Karl Urban, sigh. I thought the sister was pretty stupid for a xenobiologist but intelligence and common sense are not the same thing I suppose.

A slightly boring autobiographical note about Doom and Lauren – in my first year of law school, I’d come home and play Doom every day to get over the trauma. More from the people than the actual education, which was bad enough. But killing cacodemons who reminded me a lot of the twits I had to interact with every day got me through. So each time I heard a door open in the movie last night, it made me smile a bit. Yeah, sort of creeps you out now huh? Lauren’s not as nice as she seems is she? LOL!

Post about BDSM up at the Writerbabes blog with a bit of an excerpt from Second Chances.

Okay, I think that’s it for now…

Threat of Darkness

In the comments a few days back, Ashley asked me when and if I was going to write Jayce’s story (from A Touch of Fae). Funny thing is, I’d just picked it up and was looking through my notes and I’d started it.

And man am I loving this book! There’s this place, if I’m lucky, in every book where I just click. The words come easy, the story feels right and cohesive and it’s going the way it should. I’m there right now and it’s a joy to write it.

So barring blockage, I’m hoping to be done by the end of March! Jayce’s woman is half Fae and an easy hand with a 9mm and a solid right hook. Danger, hot sex, love, anger and resentment are all building.

Blog Me!

Hey everyone! I’m the blog hostess from tomorrow, February 23 to March 2 at the Writerbabes Blog. Come on over daily to see what’s going on. I’ll be running a few contests over the week and each day I’ll have a different theme based on my books – BDSM, Vampires, Warriors, Werewolves, Small Town Junks, Romantic Suspense and The Fae.

So, a twist on the trite saying – I’m going to write it so you’ll come (uh, well, no pun intended but if you want one, g’hed and take it).

See you tomorrow!

What Do You Like?

What sorts of things do you like to see in a blog? I know some authors do blogs heavy on writing tips and I do writing entries here and there – would you like more, less, none?

What about updates?

How about my snarky little daily life and pop culture stuff?

Just trying to make my blog a friendlier place for you all!

Any input would be very much appreciated!
