Looking for A Cool Holiday Gift Idea?

Aside from being one of my dearest friends and a person who I just absolutely love to death, Megan Hart also happens to be an amazing writer. Right now, she’s selling her books in print, complete with an autograph. I want to urge you to check her out if you have not already.

One of her books in particular is a big favorite of mine - Passion Model

Here’s the blurb:
Passion Model: SF Erotic Romance

When Recreational Intercourse Operative GMMA 03271971 drags a PSSN-M model pleasurebot to an inspection station to check for a faulty ignition, she doesn’t expect his lovemaking to send her over the edge into the most explosive climax she’s ever had. But what she really doesn’t expect is to find the handsome bot is really a man. Declan has a secret, one that could get Gemma fired from R.I.O, or worse…maybe even killed.

Here are some details from Megan herself:
Autographed books make great gifts. I’m selling off my stock now at reduced prices…Order your copies now and save…! A Little Something New In The Newsletter
So the newsletter is nearly finished but since I’m in the middle of editing and don’t have anything releasing right away, I thought I’d try something new.

So, inspired by the truly fun round robin that Megan and Anya and I are doing and Anya’s truly fun serial story from earlier this year, “Fury” I’m going to start a story in chapters called “The Dogs of LA” a paranormal tale. Part one is…well, I’ll let those of you who are subscribed find out when I send it out later on today.

If you aren’t subscribed yet, get on over there while you can, I’ll be aiming at about 5 or 6 my time (pacific). Oh and there’s a contest too.

365 Days of Lauren Dane

So, a year ago today I got the letter from my editor (I originally remembered it as being from Raelene but I went to look and it was from the fantabulous Ann) that started:

Dear Lauren

After reviewing your submission, TRIAD, Ellora’s Cave would like to extend to you a contract for publication.

CONGRATULATIONS!

And my life hasn’t been the same since then. It’s been an amazing year filled with very high highs and some low lows too, but overall, it’s been so incredible and living a dream that I’ve had since I was old enough to make up my first story is indescribably wonderful.

In the last 365 days I’ve:

  • Edited and had Triad release in ebook and now in print
  • Written, edited and had A Touch of Fae release in ebook format
  • Written, edited and had Second Chances release in ebook format
  • Written and submitted Dark Justice
  • Written and submitted Cascadia Wolves: The Encorcer
  • Written and submitted Witches Knot
  • Written and and still editing Enclave
  • Written and still editing Wolf
  • Set up a website, an author loop, joined two different author cooperatives, chatted, blurbed and edited.
  • Gotten fan mail and what a joy that is, thank you all!

And a lot more, but those are the big highlights. I have to tell you all that I would not have those things to list if you were not behind me, supporting me through everything, sending me notes of encouragement, commenting here and at my loop. It’s incredibly special to me that you all take the time to tell me how you felt about my books.

Now, I’m off to sniffle a bit and snuggle with my kiddos and enjoy the warm glow.

Wanna Win Something?

My fellow Writer Babes and I are starting a new, fun weekly tradition. Each Thursday the Writerbabes blog is going to have a weekly theme. Sometimes it’ll be tied to a release that one of us has or is coming up, other times it’ll just be something fun and random.

And each week there’ll be a different kind of contest and prize. This week’s theme (and we decided to have this first week be two weeks, LOL) is Shapeshifters. Look for fun posts and pictures on that theme all week long.

For details of the contest, head on over to the blog! Good luck!

Assorted Rockitude

My oldest son got the Sly Cooper game for the PS2 for his birthday. It’s a fun game, it’s fun to play and not so hard that my 4 year old can’t at least win part of it. What I love most is when I do some move and my sweetest boy will say, “momma, you’re so cool! I love it when you teach me new stuff! You rock.”

No, what rocks is that my eight year old tells me I rock. I taught him to do the devil horns so now when something cool happens he flashes them at me. Megan Hart would be proud, I need to get a picture of it to send to her. (she’s one of the few people who loves the devil horn enough to co-create an international emoticon symbol for it. In fact, Megan, Anya Bast and I have made up quite a few of those and Allie McKnight helped. Yeah, sometimes trouble is fun)

I got a review of Triad today from TCM, which is a new outlet for reviews of erotic romance. It’s a nice one and I like that every once in a while, something from Triad will pop up.

I heard from an old friend today, and she’s well and I may end up seeing her this month, which is nice. I don’t see enough of my friends these days.

That’s about it. Have a nice Friday evening, everyone!

Another Reading Recommendation!

It was an excellent release day at EC yesterday and instead of jamming two books into one day, I thought I’d do Shelley’s yesterday and Dawn’s anthology today. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Dawn’s writing, she’s wonderful! Even after you pick this one up (and Ari and Katherine are really great too), don’t forget to circle back to try Destined, which is fabulous!

Here’s a blurb for Dawn’s story in the anthology - Crash Course:

When Chiliad-Kai Jayrt’ian, rogue space pirate, crash-lands on the desert world of Chebrri, he meets the planet’s only upside…

Val. She’s beautiful. She’s clever. She’s constantly trying to blast extra holes in his anatomy.

Val, a young cadet-warrior on the Amazonian colony Chebrri-Taj, found the strange…appealing…male adrift in the desert sands. She’s captivated…

Chiliad is the first man she’s ever seen. He’s a barbarian. A domineering, aggravating barbarian. And she can’t stop thinking about how good it feels when he kisses her.

Fighting a forbidden passion, Val must lead Chiliad back to his ship before all hell—and a bunch of angry Amazons—break loose.

On Wolves and Wolverine
( You’ve found my shapeshifter for the Writer Babes Contest!)
Recently, I finished my first werewolf book aimed at Ellora’s Cave, Cascadia Wolves: The Enforcer. I love to read werewolves and shapeshifters. The weres in many of my favorite authors’ books are big and sexy and very Alpha without the jerk factor.

But it struck me as I was helping to prepare our Writer Babes weekly blog theme, that weres in books are far sexier than weres in movies. Looking around online for pictures of movie werewolves gets smaller men (Michael J Fox, Michael Landon, the Dr. Pepper guy from American Werewolf in London) or evil dudes that are all gross and snarly.

There are a few notable exceptions - Scott Speedman in Underworld 1 and the soon to be released Underworld Evolutions; and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine are two. But Wolverine is more of a genetic monster and I suppose that’s what Scott Speedman’s character is as well.

Weres in books are sexy and big and yummy. I wonder why there’s that gulf between the two mediums?

Perhaps it’s all the trigger issues that books delve into - in weres you have a man who is still very close to being an animal. He’s exciting and dangerous and yet, utterly safe when it comes to dealing with his mate. He’s raw and feral and sexy to everyone but he belongs to her and her only.

I mean, take Graham in Christine Warren’s, Fur Factor - oh my, the sexy Alpha ladies’ man who is felled by the sweet school teacher? Hot damn, what a way to use all of those stereotypes, turn them around and make it really hot.

Weres can give us the excitement and yet safety all at once. The ultimate alpha male without the cheating and the abuse.

Looking For Something To Read?

Shelley Munro has a fabulous new shifter book releasing from Ellora’s Cave today! In case you don’t already know this, Shelley is marvelously talented and writes wonderful books. I’m going to put a blurb up in case the cover isn’t enough to sell you:

Emily Scarlet’s husband left her for his secretary and died in a car accident—all on the same day. Now, six months later, Emily has emerged from her chrysalis of painful memories. And to prove she has what it takes to attract a man, she’s determined to experience one perfect night of passion.

Feline shape shifter, Saber Mitchell has a problem with his four boisterous younger brothers. They’re out of control. It’s too late for him, but he hopes to get his brothers mated and settled, and a ball is the place to introduce them to marriageable women.

Unbridled sex is the last thing he plans on, but one glimpse of Emily Scarlet changes his mind. Sex with her is a necessity. They dance. They make love. One thing is clear—a single night isn’t enough. Saber must have her for his mate, but Emily isn’t so easy to convince…or trust.
